The Great Lakes Region consists of teams from Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, and Pennsylvania. These four areas have produced heaps of talented ballplayers, and continue to churn out some of the best athletes and arms in the country. This year should be no different as Ohio brings some of the top uncommitted players in the country to the event while Michigan and Ontario have put together rosters that are some of the more fascinating rosters in the event with multiple breakout candidates ready to make their mark in front of the many college coaches. Finally, Pennsylvania, a state that, year after year, sees numerous players heading to Division 1 schools, will have big, physical pitchers, and exciting young position players.

Jonathan Machamer LHP / 1B / Massilon Washington, OH / 2019

Machamer showed the frame and stuff to be a high level starter at the next level when I watched him perform at PBR Ohio’s Top Prospect Games. The thick, durable, 6-foot-4, 220-pound southpaw was up to 86 mph, and there looks to be even more in his future. Brother of current University of Kentucky right-hander, Christopher Machamer, Jonathan throws out of a near ¾ slot, and is an uncomfortable at-bat for those who step in. He shows feel for three pitches including a sweeping breaking ball and changeup, and while he is a large presence on the mound, he shows off athleticism throughout his delivery and when bouncing off the mound to field his position.

Trey Nordmann RHP / Bath, MI / 2019

Nordmann exhibits a clean delivery that allows him to consistently repeat his high ¾ release point. He shows the ability to elevate a fastball (84-86) late in counts, and his two-tier breaking curveball (67-71) shows near 12/6 shape at times. Nordmann shows advanced pitchability at times, and should continue to progress with more game innings. Expect for Nordmann to be efficient and effective this week, and cause recruiters to envision a future weekend starter.
