PBR Spotlight Game: Brother Rice vs Warren De La Salle

Brother Rice battled De La Salle in the Catholic League A-B Division semi-final, for the right to move on to the Catholic League Championship. This much anticipated match up packed the stadium.

Brother Rice bats were on fire, combined with the #1 overall 2016 prospect University of Michigan commit Karl Kauffmann on the mound it proved too much to handle for De La Salle.

#1 ranked 2015 prospect Nick Plummer opened the game with a leadoff walk and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. 2015 Hillsdale commit Steven Ring doubled, bringing in Plummer, followed by an infield single by Kauffmann.

2018 Caleb Jackson walked on 4 pitches, and 2016 Northern Kentucky commit Preston Pilat did the damage crushing a 2-run double off the wall scoring both Ring and Kauffmann. Rice took a 4-0 lead.

The Rice bats did not cool in the 2nd scoring 3 additional runs. Ring singled, Jackson was walked, and again Pilat crushed a line drive to centerfield scoring Ring. Unsigned senior John Garry singled and 2015 Eastern Michigan commit Davis Feldman hit a rocket down the 3rd base line scoring both Jackson and Pilat.

Kauffmann crushed a double to right center field to lead off the 4th inning. Pilat hit a Texas leaguer to right field advancing Kauffmann to 3rd. Kauffmann later scored on double steal throw down to 2nd base. Taking an 8-0 lead.

De La Salle would not go down without a fight, scoring 2 runs in the 6th inning after Rice removed Kauffmann from the game.

2017 Nick Lepore doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Daniel Michalak’s RBI single. Michalak later scored on an RBI fielder’s choice from 2018 Bryce Bush.

Kauffmann threw 5 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts. Brother Rice advanced to the Catholic League A-B Division Championship Game at Comerica Park.
