Q and A With Central Michigan Commit: Alex Borglin

Alex Borglin, INF/OF, Rochester Adams HSAlex Borglin, Class of 2013, Rochester Adams HS

PBR: Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Borglin: I will be attending Central Michigan University.  I chose CMU because I loved the atmosphere and it felt like home.  They have a really talented baseball team and coaching staff. I am extremely excited to be apart of it next year!

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Borglin: University of Michigan and Oakland University

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Borglin: Not really, it's only a 2 hour drive from home and I can easily drive home.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Borglin: They saw me at showcases around the midwest.  They saw me play at the Connie Mack qualifier at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, MI and thats when our relationship started.  From the first call I got from Coach Ope, he made me feel like part of the CMU family.  I met Coach Jaksa at the P3 camp in the fall and our relationship continued to grow.  The rest of the coaching staff is simply outstanding.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Borglin: I think they expect me to play anywhere they need me.  I can play many positions in the infield such as 2B, 3B and anywhere in the outfield.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Borglin: I feel my biggest strength is hitting.  I hit from the left side and have had tremendous success.  My speed on the bases is another tool I bring to the table. I know I could help my team by getting big hits in tough situations and staying defensively strong.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Borglin: Last summer I played for the Ann Arbor Travelers and will again this year. The most memorable moment was making and going to the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, New Mexico.  It was the most unreal experience of my life and I will never forget it!

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Borglin: I want to get better everyday.  I give my best everyday and try to set the bar high for the underclassmen on the team.  From a team standpoint, we need to go out and give our best efforts with a great attitude.  For our goals this year, we want to win our league, district, regional title and most importantly become state champs.
