Thomas Waning 2014 RHP Glen Lake HS

PBR - Why did you choose Xavier? What do you plan to study in college?

Waning - I chose Xavier because the school is like one big family. It's a challenging school and that's exactly what I was looking for because academics mean a lot to me. I plan to major in Natural Sciences and Pre- Medicine.

PBR - Who is the best player you have played with or against?

Waning - Walter Borkovich, who is currently pitching for Michigan State, is the best player I have played with. We played together for three years in little league.

PBR - What are your goals for the season ahead as a team and personal?

Waning - As a team, we set four goals: win 1-run ball games, win a conference title, get back to semifinals, and win a state championship. My personal goals are the same as the team, also I would like to reach 30 career wins on the mound, and I’m currently 21-12.

PBR - Who has influenced your baseball career the most?

Waning - Jay Hook a former major league pitcher has influenced my baseball career the most. When I was younger he helped me develop my mechanics which has allowed me to reach the level I am at today.

PBR - What is your most memorable moment in baseball?

Waning - My most memorable moment in baseball was last year when Maple City- Glen Lake won the quarterfinal for the first time since 2001. Lots of our community members and our alumni supported us throughout the journey, making it a moment that I will never forget.
