6-foot-3, 205-pound strong athletic C/RHP prospect had an amazing day. At the plate working from the left side absolutely crushed the ball with good ability to hit to all fields. Showed big time pull power. Has a strong arm and showed it behind the plate with good technique throwing 87 mph while popping a 1.81-1.90 to 2B. On the mound ran his fastball up to 90 mph with a heavy feel. 66-68 mph sweeping curve and a sinking change up 68-71 mph.

Dolney was one of the most intriguing prospects that I saw this winter as I watched him perform at PBR Michigan’s Preseason All-State event in early March. The naturally strong, 6-foot-2 200-pounder shows the capability of being a two-way player at the next level. Behind the plate, Dolney presents a wide frame with loose hips, and stood out at the event. He has a strong arm with a quick transfer that allowed him to produce pop times in the 1.89-1.95 range. Also a pitcher, Dolney’s arm has a tendency to get a bit longer behind the plate, but his throws show carry and accuracy. At the plate, Dolney starts upright and slightly open with his hands at shoulder level with his back elbow high. He squares off with a short stride as his hands work semi-smoothly back before working forward. Dolney’s swing works on a level plane with a high finish, and he showcases advanced strength in his hands with some quickness allowing him to produce a 90 mph exit velocity. He works the middle of the field, and especially the left-centerfield gap, well, and looks like he may have a chance for some pull-side power in the future as his body continues to mature. What separated Dolney as a prospect, for me, was his work on the mound. Working with a simple, compact motion that he repeats with ease, Dolney has a quick, whippy arm that works through a near-true ¾ slot after a slight pausing stab to his long arm swing. His fastball jumps at the plate as he pounded the bottom of the zone at 83-86, and appears to have much more velocity to come. His breaking ball (68-71) took 11/5 shape, but looked too early in the season to truly evaluate. Based on his quick arm and slot, a firm slider will make sense for him to throw in the near future. Dolney also flashed a 72-75 changeup with some sink in the zone. Overall, Dolney has a high ceiling as a position player and a pitcher. With his frame still continuing to add strength and mature, expect him to continue to advance at a rapid pace. Look for him to be an impact name at August’s Future Games.

6-foot-2, 200 pound two-way prospect with a very high ceiling. At the plate with a tall stance keeping his hands in a strong position steps into the ball swinging on a slight uphill plane. Absolutely crushed a few balls. Worked the middle of the field. Quick hands and a smooth swing from the left side. On the mound has a simple motion looking down and using a high leg lift throwing from a high 3/4 arm angle. Fastball sat 84-86 downhill. 11/5 sharp breaking 68-71 mph curve and 72-75 mph sinking change up. Behind the plate receives with one hand and is quick out the shoot throwing with an accurate arm.

Dolney has a projectable 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame and is a high-follow prospect. He stands tall while slightly crouched and his front shoulder turned. He shows good weight transfer with his swing while using a leg kick with his load and good bat speed. His exit velocity was 85 mph and he ran a 4.66 home-to-1st. Behind the plate, he has a smooth, quick transfer with good footwork. His pop times were 2.03-2.22 with a position velocity of 76 mph. On the mound, he throws from a high-3/4 arm slot with a long arm action and quick arm speed. His fastball sat 78-83 mph with sinking action. His curveball had depth with 11/5 shape at 63-65 mph. His changeup showed occasional sinking action at 66-67 mph with near-fastball arm speed.

Dolney has a 6-foot-2, 200-pound build. He has a wide stance and uses a leg kick. He shows smooth rhythm with a short swing that stays through the hitting zone. His exit velocity was 83 mph and he ran a 8.06 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, he shows good fundamentals with his footwork and has a quick release. His pop times were 2.06-2.14 and a catcher position velocity of 72 mph. On the mound, he throws from a 3/4 arm slot and has a long arm action. His fastball sat 76-79 mph. His changeup was 64-68 mph with sinking action. His curveball was 65-67 mph with 10/4 break.
