Nelson has excellent athleticism and created some buzz at a tryout for the East Coast Pro Showcase. Then, at a showcase run by Rockies area scout Ed Santa, Nelson went head-to-head with RHP/SS Dazon Cole (West Bloomfield HS, MI) in a foot race, beating him with ease. He ran a 60-yard dash in 6.5 seconds. He lacks arm strength, but his speed would be an asset in center field and he shows some pop from the left side of the plate.
