Team Preview: Walled Lake Western HS

By Matt Sandles

The Walled Lake Western Warriors went 19-13 last year. They suffered some big losses in terms of talent that will be tough to replace in 2013.

Perhaps their biggest loss to graduation was LHP Cam Vieaux, who was their ace and is now pitching at Michigan State. Another big loss was C Blake Amhowitz, who is now a Madonna Crusader. Both players played leave big shoes to fill.

However, the Warriors have some players ready to fill those shoes and show that they are the next to lead at Walled Lake Western. One of the those players is RHP Andrew Gonzalez (2014) has verbally committed to follow in Vieaux's footsteps and pitch for the Spartans. He is one of the top pitchers in the Class of 2014.  Gonzalez has a long loose arm and really came into his own at the end of the summer in 2012 with his fastball reaching into the low 90's. CF Nik Heglin (2013) is a three-year starter, the team's best hitter, and leadoff hitter.

Other Players to Watch
Eric and Brian Harris (2013)- The Harris twins should man the corner outfield spots.
Alec Furstenburg (2013)- Furstenburg should start at short for the Warriorsis primed for a breakout season.
David Walczyk (2013)- Walczyk will handle the pitching staff behind the plate.  He also is a three sport athlete.
