Team Spotlight: Macomb Dakota

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

All good things must come to an end.  Macomb Dakota ended their undefeated season last night losing to L'Anse Creuse North.  They may have lost but, they certainly have the talent to make a deep run.

Dakota is a senior laden team with nine seniors and ten returners overall. According to head coach Matt Carley, his club is the epitome of a team.

"I have a great group of parents and kids.  These guys all like each other and have really come together as a team, which is one of the reasons we are doing so well.  They play hard."

Offensively Dakota is extremely dangerous with a team average hovering around .350.  Chad Roskelly, an
nsigned senior who has drawn interest from Division I schools, is one of the major factors of their potency. Roskelly is hitting at a .360 clip with 14 RBI and 10 doubles on the year.  Not to be outdone junior Andrew Manduzzi is hitting .400 with 14 RBI as well in the four hole and Frank Maloney is hitting at a .385 clip.

The pitching staff also has played an integral role. "The depth of our staff has been huge for us.  We have had a few guys banged up, but guys have stepped up and filled the holes."

Senior Alex Lewandowski, a Northwood commit, is one of the guys a little banged up, but he is still is the anchor of the staff.  Lewandowski has been up to 88mph with his fastball and has electric stuff.  Currently has a 1.77 ERA.  Manduzzi has been getting it done on the mound as well, including a complete game.

With all of the senior leadership and experience this team has, don't be surprised if they go on another undefeated streak.
