Top-Rated 2023 In State, Grimmer, Commits To Tennessee

SPRING LAKE - The top-ranked freshman in the state of Michigan has decided on a college home. Blake Grimmer has committed to attend and play for Tennessee once high school graduation takes place in four years.

“I started calling coaches in the spring and the beginning of summer,” Grimmer reflected. “I was taking it slow, thinking maybe I wanted to commit in the fall. But in talking to all the coaches and building relationships and seeing all the options out there, I got comfortable with Tennessee. I saw all the schools I wanted to see and it just felt right with Tennessee. I thought, what are you waiting for, why not just commit? It’s the right choice for me.”

It brought and end to a recruiting process that started early for Grimmer.

“When I was maybe 12, I started playing down south in PBR and other tournaments,” the Spring Lake freshman explained. “That was when I started getting into the College World Series and looking at campuses. It was then I started wanting to play SEC baseball.

“I’m big at getting better and playing the best competition I can find. I enjoy playing in the heat rather than in the cold, so I feel more comfortable. It’s perfect for me to get better.”

Auburn, Michigan and Louisville were others that the number one-rated 2023 in the state had an interest in before making his decision.

“I went to the Auburn campus when I was in Alabama,” the 6-1 160-pound Spring Lake freshman said. “It’s an amazing school. I really liked it down there. Choosing between Tennessee and Auburn was the hardest decision of my life. But with Tennessee, I just felt closer to the coaches and really liked the environment there.”

A left-handed hitter and right-handed thrower, Grimmer brings versatility to his game.

“They know I’m an athlete and that it is four years away,” Grimmer said about Tennessee. “They saw me play everywhere this year and they like that I can swing the bat. They recruit young kids that they don’t know where they’ll end up in four years, the big thing with me is I’m an athlete and I can swing the bat.”

Athleticism comes in the family, including 17-year-old sister Sophia.
