PBR Rank: #32 in MN 2017 Class

Evaluation:  8/20/16- 6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Open stance, easy load and stride, short to contact, with extension through baseball, line drive approach and works gap to gap, 84 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet defensively, above avg. actions, fields deep in stance occasionally, loose easy actions, fields with confidence, carry and accuracy to bag with 83 mph arm strength. On mound; good body control, high front glove side creating deception, long loose arm action with extension out front. Fastball was 80-82 mph with flashes of above avg. running action and command to both sides of plate. Short break on curveball, thrown for strikes, in bottom of zone consistently. Shows feel for changeup with run and sink.

PBR: Why did you choose South Carolina-Upstate? 
ALBERS: I chose South Carolina-Upstate because of the coaching staff and just the overall fit. They have a program that is on the rise and they were very honest with me on my visit. Also they just got a new business school and I felt I could excel in that atmosphere.

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 
ALBERS: I was considering mostly Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Minnesota State-Mankato.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them? 
ALBERS: I think Coach Cook first saw me in Georgia 2 years ago and then he came up to MN a few times and then finally in Jupiter. My quickly developed a strong relationship and I knew it was serious when he came up to MN more than once.  That was very important to me.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school? 
ALBERS: Yes, very much relieved. Every coach told me I need to get bigger so now I can focus on the weight room and my nutrition and enjoying my senior year.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top? 
ALBERS: My relationship with the coaches.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today? 
ALBERS: My parents and the Blizzard program. My parents have been there for me since the start and had my back through everything. Adam Barta and the Blizzard program really helped me excel as a player and as a person. I can't thank them enough.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult? 
ALBERS: I didn't really know to be honest. It was pretty easy at first but then it started to pick up with multiple phone calls a day and became pretty stressful. I'm very happy with my decision.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season? 
ALBERS: To compete for a middle infield spot and possibly a chance to pitch.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date? 
ALBERS: Either making a run to the State Championship with my high school team, or winning the Kernels tournament and qualifying for Jupiter with my Blizzard team this year. Hard to pick one over the other.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
ALBERS: Sam Carlson no doubt. He knows who won those At-Bats though.
