Commitment Spotlight: 18' Drew Bulson, C, St. Cloud Tech

Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

The city of St. Cloud has turned out great baseball recently, and not just from the college. St. Cloud Tech made an undefeated run to the state tournament last year, falling just short to an up and coming Mahtomedi team. Teach should be back on the map this year with a strong senior class. One of those seniors is recent St. Cloud State commit Drew Bulson. The 6'1, 175lbs catcher will add to the line of recent big bodied hitter such as Garrett Fischer (New Ulm) and the Hoffmans (New Ulm and Shakopee) SCSU baseball has come known for. Bulson's simple load and go swing creates a clean bat path through the zone that will benefit from added size down the road. Similar mentions could be made from behind the plate where a quick catch and release process delivers the ball on target at a high percentage of accuracy. Bulson is no stranger to the big stage serving as the cleanup hitter for the Tigers last season in the state tournament where he went 4-8 in the two games the Tigers played, including a 3-for-4 day in a back and forth first round battle with Hibbing. We want to wish the best for Drew this spring and in his future with the Huskies!

PBR: Why did you choose St. Cloud State?
I chose SCSU because of the winning tradition and expiration they have for the program. Also, it is close to home so my family can continue to watch me play.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
I talked to Augustana, Minnesota State-Mankato, and quite a few of D3 schools.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
SCSU’s coaching staff first saw me playing at a home high school game. I developed a relationship with the coaches through texts, phone calls and a visit on campus last winter.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
What put SCSU over the top was when I realized what I really wanted out of a baseball program at the next level

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
My dad played the biggest role in helping me become the baseball player I am. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have great coaches at every level.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
My goal is to hopefully play and start behind the plate.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
Always play the game the right way, you never know who is watching.

PBR: Are you competing in any fall or winter sports?
Yes I play hockey in the winter

PBR: In a few sentences, tell us about your high school team in terms of goals for the season and strengths your team possesses that will be pivotal in helping to get there (pitching, defense, offense, chemistry, etc.).
Our goal is to go back to the back to the state tournament. Our team’s biggest strength this year will be our pitching and defense.
