Commitment Spotlight: 18' LHP Nick Lommen, Minnetonka

Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

PBR MN Winter Open

This half of our teammate commitment spotlights will be highlighting Nick Lommen, a 6’4 LHP from Minnetonka. Nick is another guy who slow played his commitment until he found the right opportunity at the right time. Missouri just happened to be the choice for the tall, projectable lefty that can throw multiple pitches for strikes. Nick is consistently mid-80’s with a running FB but has ramped up to 88mph at times. A sharp, sweeping slider with depth pairs well with the FB to keep hitters off balance. A CH in the low 80’s shows late bite and is becoming a steady third option for Lommen. Nick is another great example of a guy that was tall early but has started filling his frame out over the past year. He will be tested in an SEC conference with some of the nation’s top talent which is something he will be looking forward to. Nick is part of a deep Minnetonka team that enters the season one of the top favorites to contend for a state title. We wish nothing but the best for Nick this season and in the future!

PBR: Why did you choose the University of Missouri?
I chose the University of Missouri because they play at the level that I have always wanted to play at and I feel I can make an impact with their program. I felt the coaching there is top of the line and the resources that are available will be very helpful to my success.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
The coaching staff first saw me last summer and then they gave me a call and asked if I wanted to visit. I ended up visiting this fall and loved it.

PBR: Where did the Mizzou coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
The coaching staff first saw me last summer and then they gave me a call and asked if I wanted to visit. I ended up visiting this fall and loved it.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put Mizzou over the top?
After I came back from my visit somebody asked me if there was anything I did not like about the school and I could not think of anything which made me believe it would be a very good fit.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
My family has helped me the most. Ever since I was young they have encouraged me to play baseball and be the best that I could and have always supported me.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
In my first year I plan to get guys out anyway I can no matter what role I fill.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
My best advice would be to take your time with the process. It was a very long process for me, but it was well worth the wait. The main thing for me was I didn't want to settle for a school, I wanted to go somewhere I loved.

PBR: Are you competing in any fall or winter sports?
This fall I played fall ball with the Minnetonka fall team and Starters fall team. I was also fortunate enough to be able to go down to Jupiter and throw a game. This winter I am playing rec basketball but mostly preparing for the upcoming season.

PBR: Minnetonka looks to be pretty deep with talent again this year. Tell us about your team in terms of goals for the season and strengths Minnetonka possesses that will be pivotal in helping to get there (pitching, defense, offense, chemistry, etc.).

Our final goal for the upcoming season is to win state. I think our pitching will be just as good if not better than it ever has been. Our offense may not have the same power it did last year but we still have consistent hitters throughout our lineup. Although we have lots of talent this year the biggest thing for us is our chemistry. All the guys already have a sense for our team and know what needs to be done.
