Josh Threlkeld
Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

Today Prep Baseball Report MN will spotlight 2018 grad from Farmington High School, Mikey Fredrickson. Fredrickson is 5'10 170lbs catcher that will look to add to the high level of catching that has become the standard after years with guys like Steve Helget (Mankato-Loyola H.S.), Nolan Johnson (Bloomington Jefferson), and Hunter Harnisch (Lakeville South), having received honors with the program. Mikey brings a tough-minded attitude to the park that not all players have. It is something tough to build but is a ballplayers best asset if they possess it. The Farmington High School team has been of the up and coming variety in a very tough South Suburban Conference with the likes of Burnsville and Lakeville North but will look to make waves in the 2018 season. Congrats to Mikey and best of luck this spring and at the next level!

PBR: Why did you choose Minnesota State?
I chose Minnesota State because the moment that I stepped foot on campus I knew that's where I wanted to spend the next 4 years of my career at. Minnesota State has a lot to offer and the coaching staff is great. I couldn't ask for anything better.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
I was considering Concordia St. Paul, Upper Iowa Universtiy, Winona State University, DMACC, and University of Minnesota Duluth.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
The first time the coaching staff saw me was at a showcase/camp that was held at MSU. The relationship between us whether it was phone calls, texting, on-campus visits, ect, really grew as time went on. I felt very comfortable talking with them and going to them with questions or concerns and it gave me another person to look up to.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
I would say that the deciding factor for me to put Mankato at the top is the atmosphere around the campus and how welcoming the coaching staff is.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
My parents have supported me very much in my journey through baseball, but I cant forget about all the coaches that have helped me along the way and made me the person I am today.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
I plan to start off strong in my academics, as well as compete and try and fill a roster spot on the team to the best of my ability wherever they need me.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
I would say to just play the game your way, don't think about who is watching you, and don't let people make the decisions on where you should go. Do what feels right.

PBR: Are you competing in any fall or winter sports?
Nope, just training for the spring season

PBR: Farmington has been an up and coming team in the south metro the past few years. What are some things you think people should know about Farmington baseball heading into the 2018 season (Senior loaded? Hitting? Pitching?).
Farmington baseball has come a long way in the past couple years and are looking better than ever before. We have quite a young team but we can compete. Seven starters from last year will be playing again in the upcoming season. I believe that our hitting will be very good as well as our pitching. Two of our best starting pitchers will be back as well as the top four hitters on the team from last year. If we hit and pitch like we did last year, and make little improvements here and there, I believe we have a good chance to be at the top of the conference.
