Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

Prep Baseball Report is one of the leaders in prep baseball coverage in Minnesota. We seek to bring inside news from prospects that will hopefully help others in their recruitment journey. Nick is a battle tested pitcher and outfielder from Lakeville North, a perennial state tournament contender year in and year out. Nick was the game one starter of the state tournament for the Panthers this past spring as a junior and has pitched and played numerous times on the national stage with the Minnesota Blizzard. Minnesota State-Mankato has long been known to develop top end pitching talent and there is no doubt that Nick will add to that legacy. We want to wish Nick the best of luck in Mankato and in the upcoming season.

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
I chose Minnesota State because I love their winning culture and I have the best opportunity to grow and succeed  there. Also, the coaching staff and I clicked right from the start.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
University of Minnesota was the only other school I had truly considered.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
I’m not sure when they first saw me, but we we first started talking over the phone and after talking for awhile I wanted to get on campus. So, we then did an on-campus visit and clicked on the visit just as much as we did on the phone.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
The deciding factor for me was that I’m getting the opportunity to play outfield as well, and not just pitch. Also I loved the campus.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
I wouldn’t be where I am at today without my parents of course, but also Ty Mcdevitt and my high school coach Tony Market. They all pushed me 24/7 and have made me a stronger person in life, not just baseball.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
When I get down to Minnesota State next year I am planning on helping the team in any possible way I can. I am going to continue to work hard so that hopefully I will get the opportunity to play my freshman year. I’ll do whatever they ask of me but I hope to not only be a factor on the mound, but in the outfield as well.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
Trust the process and be patient. Follow your gut and go to the place that you will have the best opportunity to succeed.

PBR: What goals do you and your high school team have for the upcoming seasons? What is a strong point (pitching, defense, offense) that you feel will help your team achieve that goal?
My goal for the high school season is to win a state championship. I’ve been blessed to play in State two years in a row, losing both times in the State semis. Knowing what it feels like to be so close but not truly achieve our main goal will help all of us this year. Our strong point will be pitching and defense, we have a lot of talent in both of those areas.
