PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Tanner: I chose Duluth because it fit me perfect as a student and I got the opportunity to play baseball there.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Tanner: I was considering 3 schools from the MAC conference and the rest were NSIC conference schools

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Tanner: The coaching staff saw me at a PBR event in the summer. They first contacted my baseball coach then got in contact with me. They came to a couple more games I threw at and we would talk on the phone occasionally.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Tanner: It is very relieving. The recruiting process was a tough process and it was very stressful at times.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Tanner: One factor for me was how great the conference is and the teams they play. I really liked the atmosphere up at Duluth and I can see myself playing for Coach Rients. His philosophy on baseball is amazing. They also added three new coaches which helped. I loved the school and the location. There’s the perfect number of students, and lots of activities to do up there

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Tanner: My faith with God has carried me through stress, hardships, and tough times through this process but all the glory goes to God and without my faith I wouldn’t be who I am today.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Tanner: For myself, I set high expectations and wanted to push myself to reach my goals. The process was difficult. It started off very exciting at my first tournament, but things take turns and didn’t go exactly my way. But I kept working and some things will work out. The recruiting process never goes 100% perfect. But as long as you end up at the school that fits you the best, that’s all that matters.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Tanner: My plans are to work as hard as I can because I believe I can compete for spots right away and that’s what the coaches also told me. So, to play early is definitely something I’ll be working towards.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Tanner: My most memorable moment in baseball to date is just all the fun I’ve had throughout high school playing the sport I love. It’s truly a blessing to be able to play this game and get an opportunity to do it for four more years.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Tanner: The best player I’ve competed against is my brother. He knows me inside and out and having to pitch to him is tough. It makes me better and him better being able to compete against each other.
