PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Goelz: The reason I chose DCTC was because on my visit there the coaches made me feel welcomed and at home. The college itself is very appealing, and the baseball field and facilities they offered were incredibly nice. Overall, I could see myself there after graduating high school working on my game till I decide to transfer.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Goelz: I was considering Augustana, Concordia St. Paul, Scholastica, Century and Gustavus.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Goelz: The coaches at DCTC first saw me at the PBR showcase this last winter and then the PBR games this summer. Our relationship started with just texting about the games(PBR) and if I’d be interested in coming over for a visit and I thought yeah why not… so I visited and got to meet coach Kirkwold in person, who is one extremely nice guy that I thought knew a lot about the game of baseball based off the conversations we had. After a week or so he called me and we had a 30-minute talk about everything else in my life besides baseball which kind of stood out for me, because it kind of made me feel much closer than what someone would be after meeting in person once.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Goelz: I'd definitely say after making my commitment, the amount of weight on my shoulders have went down a substantial amount. I feel like I can breathe again, and I'm not stressed about anything anymore

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Goelz: One factor that made DCTC an easier decision to commit there was because of their Lineman program they offered which is field im highly considering right now, plus my cousin goes there right now and plays baseball and he had nothing but good things to say about the place.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Goelz: My dad definitely takes this spot the most due to his drive to make me the best I can be. He pushes me every day to become better than the day before and is constantly reminding me that other people are working harder than me which pushes me to work on my game the most and put in extra hours. He's also spent a lot of money for me to be able to do the traveling ball, take lessons and have the opportunity to have a personal trainer last winter. Not only all of this but he's so supportive of what I want to do in baseball and he's never told me I can't do something

-Ben Goelz for sure, he's a big idol of mine… definitely pushes me to be the best I can be, whether it's getting me to lift with him 4 days a week instead of 3, or even hit 3 more buckets of balls with him instead of doing the first 2 and calling it quits... it's always a grind and he's helped me see - nothing you get is given it's earned-

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Goelz: I figured the recruiting process would have been much easier than what it was, it's a very stressful deal.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Goelz: Obviously, nothing is going to be handed over, but I'm determined to have a starting outfield spot next year taking a role in the batting lineup.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Goelz: Winning state in 2018. No doubt was that the coolest moment in my entire life… to be surrounded by such a hungry group of guys and good coaches.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Goelz: Ben Pederson because of his elite speed and knowing where to place a baseball.
