Nicolas Argento - North Carolina

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Argento: I Chose North Carolina because I think it is the best place for me to develop as a baseball player as well as a student and person. For me it is the perfect combination of getting a world class degree while also pursuing my goal of playing at the next level. Also, the coaching staff and I really connected and I felt a part of something bigger than myself.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Argento: There were a lot of schools that interested me but the final schools I was considering were North Carolina, Notre Dame and Stanford.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Argento: The coaching staff first saw me after the Top Prospect Event in June. I went out and had a very good performance and I got a call from them that night. My recruiting process really picked up after that event as it showed the strides I had made in the off-season. I was extremely nervous when I first heard who was calling but then I realized Coach Gaines was just another guy who loved baseball. We talked often and really connected.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Argento: Yes, it is nice to have my decision made and I can just focus on getting better and helping my high school team this spring. One thing I stressed with the coaching staff was my desire to win a state championship this year. Now I can put my focus towards my goal and put the work in everyday to get better.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Argento: The one deciding factor for me was when I went and visited these schools this summer. I wasn’t able to take any official visits because the majority of my process happened during covid but before I made my decision, I visited campus. Once I stepped on campus, I knew Chapel Hill was the place for me.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Argento: There are a lot of people who helped me get to where I am today. My parents have helped me tremendously in getting me to the place I am today and always supporting me. Also, Sam Topping, Justin Musil and all my coaches throughout the years played a pivotal part of the puzzle as everything came together. I would not be where I am today without the help of any of these people.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Argento: I did not really have any expectations about the recruiting process. I had the help of Elite Sports Advising who helped guide me through the experience and were a valuable resource. I truly enjoyed the process as I got to talk to coaches from around the country. It was something that is truly unique.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Argento: The plan is for me to come in work with the coaching staff to develop my skills. I hope to compete to play as much as I can. Nothing is guaranteed but I am excited to get on campus and see how everything plays out.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Argento: My most memorable baseball moment was getting to face off with Noah Shultz this summer. Neither of us had our best day but it was fun to get to compete against a player of that caliber.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Argento: The best player I have played against is Kahil Watson. I got to face him this fall and struck him out on a backdoor slider in a 3-2 count. Again, it was fun to compete against someone of that caliber.
