The PBR MN Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 20, 2019. The event was held at the West St. Paul Athletic Center in West St. Paul, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

pitchER EVALUATIONS

Nicholas Argento, RHP/1B, Wayzata, 2021
6-foot-5, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.25 runner.  Squared stance with relaxed handset.  Hand load down and back with small stride.  Hands push away and create slight arm bar.  Some length to contact.  Middle approach with mainly line drive contact.  Average barrel when on time with flashes of strength.  89 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet and attacks ball.  Plays high and sits up in fielding position.  Makes routine play.  82 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Projectable frame with room to fill out.  Simple delivery and repeats well.  Lands down mound just across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a clean arm action and good extension.  Fastball is 85-88 mph topping at 90 mph with life.  Curveball has 12/6 break with average feel at 66-68 mph.  Slider has 11/5 break with tight spin and good depth at 74-77 mph.  Change-up has average action and firm at 77-80 mph.  A follow arm in 2021 class

Quinton Ask, LHP/1B, Wayzata, 2022
5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.72 runner.  Slightly closed balanced stance.  Leg lift start and hand load back.  Arm bar creating some length to contact.  Swing works against front foot.  Flat swing plane with short finish.  Pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with 81 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet and works low to field.  Glove works and makes routine play.  72 mph arm strength with fade carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Simple delivery.  Slow to quick tempo down mound.  Throws from a low ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 72-75 mph with varying action for average strikes.  Curveball has sweeping action with 10/4 break.  Change-up is 66-68 mph with average fade and sink. 

Owen Bernards, 1B/RHP, St. Paul Central, 2020
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  8.08 runner.  Squared stance with high handset.  Body load with leg lift.  Aggressive and flat swing plane.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed pop in barrel.  87 mph exit velocity.  IF- Slower feet to ball.  Fields high with average hands. 73 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.  On mound- Easy and repeatable delivery.  Lands with shorter stride and falls down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with some effort.  Fastball has slight run and sink at 73-76 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with stiff and inconsistent feel at 64-66 mph.  Change-up has slight downhill average action at 67-70 mph.

Trinity Blood, OF/RHP, Elk River, 2021
5-foot-10, 163-pound switch hitting 2-way player.  7.26 runner.  Small crouch and balanced stance.  Body load.  Knee to knee and hands go back.  Slight arm bar.  Some length in swing.  Aggressive swing.  Pull approach with ground ball contact.  83 mph exit velocity.  OF- Active feet and direct routes to field.  Flips ball into throwing hand.  Makes routine play with some stiffness.  81 mph arm strength with good accuracy and carry.  On mound- Worked from stretch.  Balanced into leg lift and down mound.  Long finish out front.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has varying action at 76-78 mph.  Curveball has 10/4 break with average shape and more slider look thrown at 68-71 mph.  Change-up is straight with push release at 70-73 mph. 

Sam Cooper, SS/RHP, Minneapolis South, 2021
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.06 runner.  Narrow open stance.  Aggressive load and swing.  Turns through swing well.  Uses the whole field with mainly line drive contact.  Good contact with some pull pop.  80 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet and moves well to field.  Glove works and can play high.  Quick arm to release.  85 mph arm strength with above average carry and good accuracy.  On mound- Worked from stretch.  Good balance and tempo down mound.  Lands across body creating angle to hitter.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with long and loose arm action.  Ball jumps out of hand.  Fastball is straight at 86-88 mph.  Curveball has 12/6 break with tight spin and good shape at 72-74 mph.  Slider has 10/4 break with good spin and small shape thrown at 78-79 mph.  Change-up is 72-74 with average fade action.  A follow arm in 2021 class. 

Ethan Coyer, 3B/RHP, Farmington, 2022
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.44 runner.  Slightly open wide stance.  Body and hand load back.  Hands push into arm bar.  Barrel gets deep with some length to contact.  Lower half gets through swing.  Looks to elevate.  Pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent contact with some pop in barrel.  83 mph exit velocity.  IF- Slower feet with more athleticism laterally.  Glove gets out late.  Makes routine play.  Arm plays.  77 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Athletic frame.  Rocker step into leg lift.  Good direction down mound.  Aggressive to plate.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with an easy arm action.  Fastball is straight at 80-82 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with small shape and tight spin at 71-73 mph.  Change-up is firm with heavy fade.

Alex Crusan, 3B/RHP, Bloomington Jefferson, 2022
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.32 runner.  Balanced with lower hand start.  Some rhythm to body and hand load.  Arm bar at times.  Stays tall through swing.  Hands lead through swing.  Middle approach with mainly ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel with weaker contact.  84 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet sit back to field and work around ball.  Good glove and makes routine play.  Good arm action.  79 mph arm strength with good accuracy and carry.  On mound- Average frame.  Simple and repeatable delivery.  Good tempo in delivery down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with clean arm action.  Fastball has some life at 79-81 mph.  Curveball has 12/6 slower break with average depth at 64-65 mph.  Change-up has slight cut action thrown with average feel at 72-73 mph.  Follow arm on mound in 2022 class.

Braden Ebeling, SS/RHP, Bloomington Jefferson, 2023
5-foot-7, 128-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.34 runner.  Balanced stance with high handset.  Body load start.  Works against front foot and can lose balance.  Pushes barrel to contact.  Uses the whole field with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Weaker contact with 77 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and moves well laterally.  Gloves works and plays through ball.  75 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Small young frame.  Rocker step into turn and balance position.  Good direction down mound.  Throws from a mid ¾ arm slot with good extension out front.  Fastball has slight run thrown at 74-76 mph.  Curveball has sweeping10/4 break with big shape thrown at 62-64 mph.  Change-up has average action with inconsistent feel at 67-70 mph. 

Allex Ege, RHP, Shakopee, 2020
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Small step and turn up into balance point.  Closes off hips and swings back open down mound.  Average tempo into more aggressive.  Falls off glove side.  Throws from a low ¾ arm slot with some life out of hand.  Fastball is 75-78 mph with varying action for strikes at bottom of zone.  Slider has 11/5 break with tight spin and good depth thrown at 68-70 mph.  Change-up has good action at 68-71 mph. 

Evan Esch, LHP/OF, Mounds Park Academy, 2021
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  The 33rd ranked player in MN 2021 class.  6.96 runner.  Tall slightly open stance.  Shoulder load.  Good hands and body gets through swing well.  Consistent swing plane.  Middle approach with line drive contact.  83 mph exit velocity.  OF- Aggressive to field.  Shows athleticism.  Fields ball clean but works high.  Long arm action with time to release.  87 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Average frame.  Good balance through delivery.  Starts delivery and some pause in tempo.  Lands across body some.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with long arm action.  Hides ball.  Fastball has life to both sides of the plate at 81-83 mph.  Curveball has sweeping 1/7 break with average depth at 62-64 mph.  Change-up is thrown with average feel and solid fade action at the bottom of the zone at 71-73 mph. 

Cameron Fischer, LHP, Becker, 2020
6-foot-5, 175-pound left-handed throwing pitcher.  Long frame with room to fill out.  Simple and repeatable delivery.  Slower tempo.  Gets to balance position and swings open.  Lands across body creating angle to plate.  Throws from a ¾ arm action.  Pushes back out of glove.  Fastball is 75-78 mph with varying action and slight downhill plane.  Curveball has 1/7 break with small shape thrown at 66-69 mph.  Knuckle is inconsistent with sink or down action at times at 70-72 mph. 

Braxton Greenburg, OF/RHP, Wayzata, 2021
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  The 44th ranked player in the MN 2021 class.  7.13 runner.  Narrow upright stance.  Body load with leg lift.  Uses whole body to swing.  Aggressive.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel with 83 mph exit velocity.  OF- Average feet and will sit back on ball.   Good glove and fields ball clean.  Long arm action.  85 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Projectable frame.  Simple delivery and repeats well.  Swings open some down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 80-82 mph with arm side sink.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average depth and tight spin for strikes at 65-69 mph.  Change-up has inconsistent feel at 72-75 mph.

Isaac Hanson, SS/RHP, Brainerd, 2023
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.26 runner.  Slightly open narrow stance.  Strides to start with hand load.  Aggressive swing.  Lifts barrel to contact and can get length.  Short and quick finish.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact and barrel with 75 mph exit velocity.  IF- Young.  Sits with routine ball.  Shows some athleticism when moving laterally.  Average glove that can be out late.  70 mph arm strength with average accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Athletic smaller frame.  Smooth tempo and balance through delivery.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with clean and quicker arm action.  Fastball is 76-78 mph thrown for strikes.  Curveball is 11/5 break with average depth at 64-65 mph.  Change-up has good feel with solid fade and sink thrown at 70-72 mph. 

Connor Hartley, RHP, Rosemount, 2021
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average frame.  Slow big rocker step to start.  Shorter balance position and quickens tempo down mound.  Swings and lands open down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with slight stab behind.  Fastball is straight and heavy at times thrown at 78-80 mph.  Drops arm slightly for slider that has 10/4 break with small shape at 67-69 mph.  Change-up has hard sink at 73-74 mph. 

Josh Hatano, SS/RHP, Park, 2022
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.32 runner.  Balanced stance with low handset.  Small leg lift and hands push back.  Arm bar at times.  Turns through swing well with good swing plane.  Middle approach with mainly line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact with some pop in barrel.  82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet.  Glove works and fields ball deep.  Better actions laterally.  77 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.  On mound- Average frame with room to fill out.  Simple and smooth tempo through delivery.  Good direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with average arm action and extension out front.  Fastball is straight at 78-80 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average shape and inconsistent feel thrown at 68-70 mph.  Change-up has some sink at 72-73 mph. 

Chase Heying, RHP, Sartell, 2021
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average frame.  Rocker step into balance point.  Good balance and lands across body down mound.  Slower tempo through delivery.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with a long to short arm action.  Fastball is straight with a slight downhill plane that 77-79 mph topping at 82 mph.  Curveball has big 11/5 break with average shape and loose spin at 66-69 mph.  Change-up is 72-73 with average action. 

Nicholas Hubbard, 1B/RHP, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2021
5-foot-10, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  8.08 runner.  Open stance with high handset.  Leg lift trigger and some rhythm in hands.  Throws hands through swing and rolls after contact.  Tends to lose balance.  Uses the whole field with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with 82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet and sits high to field.  Average glove and makes routine play.  Looks comfortable at 1B.  Makes plays and average feet around bag.  70 mph arm strength with good accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Compact frame.  Rocker step into quicker tempo delivery.  Good balanced and direction in delivery.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a shorter arm action.  Fastball has varying action thrown at 72-74 mph.  Curveball is 61-64 mph with big sweeping 10/4 break.  Change-up has average fade action at 67-69 mph. 

Walker Hultgren, OF/RHP, Osseo, 2020
6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.53 runner.  Upright stance and high handset.  Stride and small hand load.  Swings hard.  Pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel and flashed some pop in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Average feet and sits back at times.  Good glove and fields through ball.  85 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Bigger frame.  Simple delivery and lands across body down mound.  Throws from a over the top arm slot.  Fastball is straight at 80-82 mph with slight downhill tilt.  Curveball has 12/6 break with loose spin and small shape at 68-70 mph.  Change-up has inconsistent feel and spiked at 74-76 mph. 

Caden Klebba, C/RHP, Centennial, 2022
5-foot-9, 172-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  8.02 runner.  Open stance.  Long exaggerated load that lands square.  Stays balanced through swing.  Middle approach with line drive contact.  Consistent contact through round.  80 mph exit velocity.  C- Good movements and can have too much at times.  Works hard with average glove.  Average catch and exchange.  2.04-2.16 pop times.  72 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry to bag.  IF- Average feet and works around ball to field.  Fields ball deep with average glove.  76 mph arm strength with good accuracy and carry.  On mound- Simple and repeatable delivery.  Lands slightly closed down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with average arm action.  Fastball is straight thrown at 75-77 mph.  Curveball lands for strikes with loose spin and 11/5 break at 65-67 mph.  Change-up has slight fade action at 65-67 mph. 

Kole Krier, 3B/RHP, Maple Grove, 2021
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  The 71st ranked player in the 2021 MN class. 7.19 runner.  Upright and open stance.  Knee to knee and small hand load.  Spins through swing.  Hands work first and work up to contact.  Short and stiff finish.  Middle approach with line drive contact.  Average contact with 85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average actions.  Sits back to work around ball.  Good glove and fields through ball.  81 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Average frame.  Simple delivery.  Controlled tempo and more aggressive down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with some effort.  Fastball is straight with a slight downhill plane thrown at 82-83 mph topping at 85 mph.  Curveball has good 12/6 late break at 72-73 mph.  Change-up has average action with some feel thrown at 78-80 mph. 

Daniel Kuehn, RHP, Woodbury, 2021
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Average thin frame.  Big rocker step to start.  Leg swing up and swings open down mound.  Tends to fall glove side.  Some sling arm action from a lower ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 69-71 mph with slight run.  Curveball is inconsistent with 11/5 break thrown at 60-61 mph.  Change-up is spiked at 59-61 mph.

Reese Ligtenberg, RHP, Eagan, 2020
6-foot-5, 175-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Big frame with room to fill out.  Solid mound presence.  Simple delivery and repeats well.  Good tempo.  Compact clean arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 86-88 mph with late heavy run.  Curveball has 11/5 break with good depth thrown at 70-74 mph.  Change-up has average feel and action at bottom of zone thrown at 78-80 mph.  A solid uncommitted arm in 2020 class.

Andrew Linn, RHP/1B, Fargo Davies (ND), 2020
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.51 runner.  Balanced and slightly open stance.  Toe tap trigger with hand load.  Gets to front foot and swing plane works down to contact.  Average extension through contact.  Middle approach with groundball and line drive contact.  Good barrel contact with 84 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and moves well around bag.  Good glove and fields through ball.  78 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Good size frame.  Rocker step into leg lift.  Starts closed down mound and swings open with good direction down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with compact arm action.  Fastball is 80-82 mph and elevated.  Curveball has average shape with inconsistent feel at 72-75 mph.  Change-up is firm thrown at 74-76 mph.  Splitter has average action at 66-68 mph.

Jacob Meiners, 2B/RHP, Owatonna, 2021
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.97 runner.  Slightly open with high handset.  Compress load.  Choppy rhythm.  Swing plane works down to contact with low finish.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with 73 mph exit velocity.  IF- Heavy feet and sits back to field.  Glove is stiff.  74 mph arm strength with good accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Threw from stretch.  Stays tucked and gets to balance point.  Comes down mound with shorter stride slightly across body.  Throws from a low ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has varying action for strikes at 75-77 mph.  Slider has sweeping 10/4 break at 65-66 mph.  Change-up is 70-72 mph with average action and feel. 

Max Meyer, RHP/SS, South St. Paul, 2021
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.03 runner.  Upright and slightly open.  Long leg lift with hand load.  Sits over back leg through swing.  Short and stiff finish.  Swing works in and out of zone.  Uses the whole field with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with 76 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet sit back to field.  Glove comes out late and fields ball deep.  Longer arm action.  74 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On mound- Simple delivery.  Small hitch on drive down mound.  Upper body stays open through release.  Fastball has cut action for strikes at 74-75 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average shape thrown at 63-65 mph.  Change-up average action and elevated at 68-70 mph. 

William North, RHP, St. Croix Prep, 2020
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Solid frame and mound presence.  Small step and turn into balance point.  Slower tempo through delivery.  Lands down mound with shorter stride.  Some sling to arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has varying action thrown at 74-75 mph.  Slider has stiff release with inconsistent 11/5 break thrown at 63-65 mph.  Change-up has cut action at 67-70 mph.  Overall raw with good frame. 

Hayden Olson, 1B/LHP, St. Michael-Albertville, 2022
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.19 runner.  Balance stance.  Knee to knee trigger and small hand load.  Short to ball with flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with line drive contact.  Consistent contact with good barrel contact.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and moves well around bag.  Fields through ball and sure hands.  74 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Long thin frame.  Simple delivery.  Lands across body with good balance.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a short and easy arm action.  Fastball is 75-77 mph topping at 79 mph and straight.  Curveball has 1/7 break with small shape at 65-70 mph.  Change-up has average fade action thrown at 65-67 mph. 

Nicholas Paulsen, LHP, Unity (WI), 2020
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed throwing pitcher.  Long lower half with good overall frame.  Small step into quick tempo delivery.  Higher leg lift and down mound with shorter stride.  Some funk throughout.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with long to short arm action.  Fastball has some tilt with varying action at 76-77 mph.  Curveball has 12/6 break with average depth at 65-66 mph.  Slider is average at 68-69 mph.  Change-up is flat and average at 59-61 mph. 

Jacob Petersen, RHP, Rosemount, 2020
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  The 135th ranked player in the MN 2020 class.  Balanced start and turns into leg lift.  Gets to balance position and lands with good direction down mound.  Shorter stride and stays tall through release.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a short arm action.  Fastball has heavy varying action at 82-83 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with smaller shape and average depth at 69-71 mph.  Change-up is firm with slight run at 75-77 mph. 

Noah Pinette, SS/RHP, Bloomington Jefferson, 2021

Gregory Ryun, RHP/SS, Chanhassen, 2020
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.33 runner.  Wider and slightly open stance.  Lower handset.  Toe tap trigger with shoulder load.  Gets to front foot.  Flat swing plane through zone.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with 82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet and sits back to field.  Moves more athletically laterally.  Average glove.  83 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy to bag.  On mound- Rocker step into turn and down mound.  Lands and finishes standing up.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a quicker arm action.  Ball jumps out of hand.  Fastball is 83-86 mph and heavy.  Curveball has 10/4 break with good depth thrown at 72-75 mph.  Change-up is 72-75 with average fade and sink. 

Samuel Schlecht, RHP, Wayzata, 2021
6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed throwing pitcher. Long thin frame with room to fill out.  Rocker step into over the top delivery.  Turns into balance position and swings down mound.  Slow tempo and quickens up.  Lands slightly across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with short arm action.  Fastball is straight at 76-77 mph.  Curveball is inconsistent with 10/4 break and loose spin thrown at 59-60 mph.  Change-up has average sink at 62-65 mph. 

Will Spychalla, OF/LHP, Browerville, 2021
6-foot-5, 178-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.28 runner.  Upright and open with preset hands.  Compresses to start.  Swing plays.  Works down and up through contact.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Some strength to swing with 88 mph exit velocity.  OF- Attacks ball and takes direct routes.  Glove can be stiff and makes routine play.  Long arm action with whip at times.  77 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy.  On mound- Long and lanky frame.  Raw mechanically.  Rocker step into drag across rubber.  Leg lift swings up and the open down mound.  Some push to release with ¾ arm action.  Fastball is straight and inconsistent for strikes at 74-76 mph.  Curveball slows arm down for and has 1/7 break with average depth at 58-62 mph.  Change-up is 60-64 mph with down action at times.
