The PBR MN Prospect ID- Mankato event took place on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. The event was held at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2020 - 2023 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; along with Coach Ryan Kragh from Bethany Lutheran College for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR MN Prospect ID- Mankato event.

infieldER EVALUATIONS (ALPA)

Ethan Beltrand, 2B/RHP, Princeton, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.58 runner.  Relaxed slightly open stance.  Body and hand load.  Strides to square.  Flat swing plane with a short finish.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent contact and flashed pop in barrel.  84 mph exit velocity.  IF- Overall raw defensively.  Sits back to field.  Glove comes out late and is stiff.  Average accuracy with below average carry on 71 mph arm strength.  On mound- Rocker step in to balance point.  Good tempo through delivery.  Stays tall down mound and into release.  Short arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has down hill varying action at 71-74 mph topping at 76 mph.  Curveball flicks and has small 11/5 break thrown at 58-60 mph.  Change-up is 65-66 mph with average feel and spiked at times. 

John Blanchette, 1B, Aitkin, 2020
6-foot, 215-pound right-handed hitting first baseman.  7.72 runner.  Open stance with high handset.  Leg lift and hand load back.  Rhythm in load and strides to square.  Flashed bat speed with some lift in swing plane.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 83 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet to field.  Fields ball high.  Glove works and makes routine play.  74 mph arm strength with average carry and below average accuracy.

Jake Brill, SS/OF, Northwestern (WI), 2020
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting short stop.  6.69 runner.  Squared balanced start with high handset.  Leg lift start small hand load.  Rhythm in load and into swing.  Average swing plane and flashes some bat speed.  Middle approach with mainly groundball and line drive contact.  Average contact and flashed some strength in barrel with 84 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet to field and into throws.  Glove is clean and fields through ball.  90 mph arm strength with average accuracy and above average carry.  IF- Average feet to field.  Glove can be stiff.  Makes routine play.  86 mph arm strength with above average carry and accuracy.

Teddy Giefer, 1B, Minnesota Valley Lutheran, 2020
6-foot-3, 170-pound left-handed hitting first baseman.  7.47 runner.  Longer frame.  Closed stance with weight started slightly back.  Compress load and big stride into swing.  Aggressive swing.  Flatter swing plane with some lift at times.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive contact.  Average contact and flashes pull pop.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and moves well around bag.  Glove fields ball clean and makes routine play.  72 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

Matthew Helget, 2B, Mankato Loyola, 2020
5-foot-10, 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman.  7.01 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance.  Strides to square and hand load back.  Lower half gets through swing well.  Flat swing plane.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact.  76 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet and moves well laterally.  Tends to field ball deep straight on and cleaner on the move.  Average carry and accuracy with 67 mph arm strength. 

Tor Hendrickson, 3B, Rochester John Marshall, 2020
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting third baseman.  7.32 runner.  Slightly closed stance with high back elbow.  Body load with toe tap trigger.  Swing plane works down to contact with short finish.  Works the whole field with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with 84 mph exit velocity.  IF- Makes routine play.  Feet can be heavy to field.  Glove is stiff.  Average carry and accuracy with 79 mph exit velocity. 

Mason Holmes, 2B, Mankato West, 2021
5-foot-8, 125-pound right-handed hitting second baseman.  7.75 runner.  Slightly open and balanced stance.   Strides to square and hands load back.  Arm bar at times creating length to contact.  Flat swing plane.  Mid/oppo approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Weaker barrel contact with 75 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet to field.  Glove can be stiff at times and makes routine play.  72 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

Samuel Karrick, C/1B, Minnetonka, 2020
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  7.57 runner.  Shoulder width balanced stance with high handset.  Strides with small hand load.  Lower half gets through swing well.  Swing plane has slight lift through zone creating line drive and fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact with some pop.  82 mph exit velocity.  C- Balanced and flexible stance.  Average glove and holds pitches.  Average blocker.  Clean exchange with longer foot work and arm action.  2.15-2.31 pop times.  73 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  IF- Attacks ball and average feet to field.  Can rush at times.  Stiff glove and makes routine play.  75 mph arm strength with average carry and above average accuracy. 

Michael Laber, 1B, Brainerd, 2020
6-foot-3, 170-pound left-handed hitting first baseman.  7.27 runner.  Long frame.  Slightly open balanced stance with high handset.  Toe tap trigger and hands load down.  Arm bar at times.  Flat swing plane.  Raw mechanically.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Consistent contact with some pop in barrel.  82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet.  Presents big target and average receiver around bag.  Hands can be stiff to field.  73 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

Jameson Langer Jr., SS/OF, Waconia, 2020
5-foot-9, 166-pound left-handed hitting short stop.  6.81 runner.  Slightly closed balanced stance.  Leg lift and hand load back.  Some stiffness through swing.  Swing plane works down to contact.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive contact.  Average contact and flashed strength in barrel.  90 mph exit velocity.  OF- Average feet to ball.  Glove is stiff.  Some pause in arm action.  74 mph arm strength with fading carry and average accuracy.  IF- Average feet with some squat to field.  Glove is stiff.  Longer arm action.  Below average carry and average accuracy with 68 mph arm strength. 

Louis Magers, RHP/SS, Mankato West, 2022
6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.31 runner.  Projectable frame.  Balanced squared stance.  Body load back with leg lift and hands load down.  Aggressive swing and flashed bat speed.  Good swing plane with slight lift.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact and flashed pull pop.  87 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good actions.  Feet move well to field.  Above average glove and fields ball clean.  Quicker release.  76 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Long frame with room to fill out.  Rocker step in to balanced position.  Good tempo and direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Good extension out front.  Fastball is 80-81 mph topping at 82 mph with varying action.  Curveball has slightly lower arm slot with average shape and spin at 69-71 mph.  Change-up is thrown with average feel for strikes at 69-71 mph.  Follow in 2022 class. 

Xander Paar, OF/2B, Coon Rapids, 2020
5-foot-9, 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder.  7.21 runner.  Shoulder width slightly open stance.  Leg lift to start and hand load back.  Aggressive swing.  Some lift in swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 80 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet to field.  Average glove and fields ball clean.  Fade carry with average accuracy and 75 mph arm strength.  IF- Average actions.  Good feet and works around ball to field.  Clean glove and funnels to field.  Average accuracy with below average carry and 74 mph arm strength.

Dylan Princl, SS, Rosemount, 2020
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting short stop.  6.89 runner.  Balanced squared stance with high handset.  Leg lift and small hand load.  Choppy rhythm.  Swing works down to contact. Lower half gets through swing.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 80 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet can be heavy on routine play.  Moves better laterally.  Average glove with some stiffness in hands.  Average carry and accuracy with 81 mph arm strength. 

Josh Robb, 2B/RHP, St. Peter, 2021
6-foot-2, 152-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.61 runner.  Young long frame.  Open balanced stance.  Body load back with stride to start.  Hand load back with arm bar at times.  Stiffness in swing with a short finish.  Pull approach with mainly ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact with 80 mph exit velocity.  IF- Choppy footwork and moves better laterally.  Glove is stiff.  Longer arm action to release.  76 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Projectable frame.  Rocker step into quicker tempo.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Shorter stride.  Throws from a lower ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 71-74 mph and straight with push release.  Curveball is flat with cut action and small shape thrown at 66-67 mph.  Change-up is flat with varying action at 66-71 mph. 

Carter Ruschmeier, SS, Glencoe-Silver Lake, 2022
5-foot-6, 145-pound right-handed hitting short stop.  7.77 runner.  Upright stance with high handset.  Leg lift to start and hand load down.  Strides closed.  Pushes barrel through contact with a flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Average barrel with inconsistent contact.  74 mph exit velocity.  IF- Good feet and works around ball to field.  Average glove with some stiffness.  Below average carry and accuracy with 69 mph arm strength.

Tyler Schell, 2B, Armstrong, 2020
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting second baseman.  7.27 runner.  Solid frame.  Open and upright stance.  Strides to square with hand load back.  Arm bar at times creating length to contact.  Average swing plane with some lift through zone.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 81 mph exit velocity.  IF- Slower actions.  Average glove and makes routine play.  Fields ball out in front.  81 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

Matt Seykora, SS/RHP, Owatonna, 2021
5-foot-8, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.11 runner.  Balanced squared stance.  Stride and small hand load.  Tends to fall to backside during swing.  Flat swing plane and short finish.  Pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact with 74 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet and works around ball to field.  Average glove and can get stiff at times.  Makes routine play.  78 mph arm strength with average carry and below average accuracy.  On mound- Threw from stretch.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with a short arm action.  Tends to rush.  Fastball is straight at 72-73 mph topping at 74 mph for strikes.  Curveball has average shape and spin thrown at 62-64 mph.  Change-up has stiff release with average action at 66-67 mph. 

Tanner Shumski, 1B/RHP Mankato West, 2022
6-foot-1, 225-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.89 runner.  Big frame.  Slightly open balanced stance.  Body load back with some rhythm.  Toe tap trigger.  Flat swing plane and works down to contact at times.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed some strength in barrel.  86 mph exit velocity.  IF- Longer footwork and sits back to field.  Glove works and fields ball clean.  73 mph arm strength with average accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Big mound presence.  Rocker step into balance position.  Good tempo and balance through delivery.  Good direction down mound.  Throws from a lower ¾ arm slot with easy arm action.  Fastball is 83-84 mph for strikes and some sink.  Curveball spins with minimal break at 77-79 mph.  Change-up is thrown with good arm action at 76-77 mph. 

Avery Stock, 2B, Mankato West, 2022
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting second baseman.  7.41 runner.  Open stance with high handset.  Leg lift start and small hand load.  Flat swing plane with short finish.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with 77 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet and works around ball to field.  Makes routine play.  Glove comes out late and fields ball high.  76 mph arm strength with average accuracy and carry. 

Jack Tiemann, SS, Bloomington Kennedy, 2020
6-foot-2, 165-pounf left-handed hitting short stop.  7.12 runner.  Slightly closed balanced stance.  Body load with pre-loaded hands.  Flat swing plane and short finish.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with some strength in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet.  Average glove and can be stiff at times.  Fields ball high.  72 mph arm strength with average accuracy and below average carry. 

Nathaniel Tillman, RHP/3B, Anoka, 2020
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.18 runner.  Squared balanced stance.  Small leg lift and minimal hand load.  Lower half gets through swing.  Flat swing plane.  Middle approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact with 82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Attacks ball and feet can be heavy.  Stiff hands at times and glove can be late.  Short arm action.  78 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Threw from stretch.  Open set.  Leg lift into balance position and good direction down mound.  Shorter stride and backside falls through.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has decent life thrown at 78-79 mph.  Curveball has tighter spin and 11/5 break with average feel thrown at 68-70 mph.  Change-up has average action with some feel at 69-71 mph. 

Matthew Werk, SS/RHP, Mankato East, 2022
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.09 runner.  Open balanced stance.  Some rhythm in load.  Small body load and strides to square.  Flat swing plane and average swing.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Consistent barrel contact with 83 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average actions.  Feet move well to field.  Good glove and sure hands.  Short quick rm action.  80 mph arm strength with average accuracy and good carry.  On mound- Rocker step into turn.  Good balance and tempo through delivery.  Good direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with short quick arm action.  Fastball is 80-81 mph topping at 82 mph with slight down hill action.  Curveball has 11/5 break with tighter spin thrown at 71-74 mph.  Change-up is thrown with average arm speed with feel for strikes at 72-75 mph.
