Prep Baseball Report's MN Winter Open event took place on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The event was held at Starters Sports Training in Shakopee, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

Carter Beck, C, Bloomington Jefferson, 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.82 home-to-first time. Slight shoulder load, transfer weight to back leg and transfers to front, occasionally straight legs in swing, flashes pop to pull side of field, mid/pull approach with fly ball contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Solid mechanics behind plate, short clean transfer, good arm action and release, 75 mph arm strength with 2.09-2.12 pop times. Solid footwork and actions for size, sure hands, shows versatility with ability to defend, accurate to bag, 80 mph arm across infield.

Kyle Chiriboga, C, Hopkins, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Uncommitted 2018 with 80 mph arm strength and 1.89-1.97 pop times. Solid athleticism behind plate, flexible and moves well, has ability to receive, mobile to block, works through plate with direction, has accuracy to bag, throws have carry. 4.7 home-to-first time. Body load at plate, uses lower half well in swing, line drive and fly ball contact, tends to pull/hook with stiff finish, 83 mph exit velocity. Versatility in field, sure hands, covers ground, has body control, with accurate 86 mph throws to bag.

Riley Eickhoff, C, Stewartville, 2022
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 5.1 home-to-first time. Slight body and hand load, stiff lower half in swing, pull approach, spray contact, 71 mph exit velocity. High setup behind plate, steps to side to throw, lower arm slot, 69 mph arm strength with 2.34-2.46 pop times. Fields routine, solid glove, crow hop to throw, avg. accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Andy Hedberg, C, Apple Valley, 2020
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 4.63 home-to-first time. Slightly open stance, rolling hand load, quiet actions in box, balanced throughout swing, consistent solid contact, spray hitter, mid/pull approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Lean athletic build behind plate, flexible lower half, long exchanges to throw, length to stride, lower arm slot, online throws short to bag, 73 mph arm strength with 2.08-2.15 pop times.

Chance Laurie, C, Maple Grove, 2020
5-foot-9, 172-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.46 home-to-first time. Early load, produces bat speed, short to contact, ball jumps off barrel, fly ball contact, shows pop in bat, 85 mph exit velocity. High stance, long stride, stiff arm action, avg. accuracy to bag, 71 mph arm strength with 2.09-2.14 pop times.

Ethan Roe, C, Blake School, 2018
6-foot-1, 186-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.9 home-to-first time. Body load, strides inline, shows rhythm in hands, line drive hitter, works gap to gap, solid pop in bat, 89 mph exit velocity. Solid receiver, uses momentum through plate, clean exchanges, slight hitch in arm action, solid accuracy to bag, 79 mph arm strength with 1.95-1.97 pop times.

Nathan Rosenberg, SS/RHP, Chaska, 2021
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.7 home-to-first time. Open stance, some rhythm in hands, loads over back leg, has extension through contact, finds barrel consistently, gap to gap hitter, 83 mph exit velocity. Behind plate; avg. direction with feet, length to exchange, one-piece arm action, currently lacks accuracy to bag, 74 mph arm strength with 2.25-2.32 pop times. Avg. actions, fields flat-footed, winds up to throw, sure hands, should continue to develop, 72 mph arm across infield.

Ethan Schweigart, C, Detroit Lakes, 2018
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.54 home-to-first time. Open stance, drops hands in load, stiff slashy swing plane, consistently barrels baseball, line drive contact with avg. pop in bat, 82 mph exit velocity. Raw behind plate, long release from low ¾ slot, 2.08-2.35 pop times with 73 mph arm strength. Works through baseball, aggressive routes, athletic enough to make plays, sure hands, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 80 mph arm across infield.

John Volkers, C, Maple Grove, 2020
5-foot-7, 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 5.03 home-to-first time. Crouched stance, body load, linear actions, looks to lift baseball, fly ball contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Flexible lower half with quicker feet, uses momentum and has direction through plate, quick release, solid accuracy to bag, 69 mph arm strength with 2.00-2.06 pop times. Sure hands, avg. range, accurate to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.
