The recruiting radar: Shannon ahern, lhp/OF, holy angels, 2016

Name: Shannon Ahern
Position: LHP/OF
Grade: 2016
Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 155-pounds
High School: Academy of Holy Angels
Ranking: 43rd in Minnesota’s 2016 Class

Evaluation: 5-foot-10, 155-pound 2-way player who ran a 7.35 60. Spray hitter with solid contact who uses the whole field. Level line drive swing plane with 85 mph exit velocity off tee. Loose body with actions in outfield. Short arm action with decent carry and above average accuracy. 86 mph arm strength from outfield. Upside on mound with pitchability. Throws 79-81 mph topping out at 83 mph. FB shows arm-side sink. Back-foot breaking ball to RHH is a plus pitch. Stays around the zone; attacks hitters; and should contribute immediately at college level.

PBR: What schools have you been hearing from?
AHERN: I’ve been hearing from St. Cloud State, Minnesota State Mankato, St. Thomas, Winona State, and several others.

PBR: Have you developed a relationship with any specific coaches?
AHERN: Yes, I have developed a strong relationship with St Cloud, Mankato, and St. Thomas. They all have been very helpful during the recruiting process.

PBR: Have you taken any visits? If so, please describe each visit.
AHERN: Yes, I have visited St Cloud and Mankato. At both schools, I was shown their field, weight rooms, indoor facilities, and the rest of the campus.

PBR: Do you have any visits scheduled?
AHERN: Yes, I have St. Thomas scheduled on September 9th, DMACC on the 18th, Winona on the 21st, and St. Johns on the 26th.

PBR: Do you have any offers at this stage?
AHERN: Yes

PBR: Do you have a timeline for your recruitment?
AHERN: It will most likely be in the fall so I can focus on my last year of high school and the upcoming varsity season.

PBR: Do you have a favorite at this stage? If so, who and why?
AHERN: All the schools I have been talking to have impressed me. I will take these next couple of visits, and I will have a better idea. The most important thing for me is what school will be the best fit for my academics.

PBR: What showcases or events have been most meaningful to your recruitment thus far?
AHERN: The PBR Top Prospect Games at St. Thomas and the Showtime Sports Camps at Burnsville.

PBR: GPA/ACT/SAT?
AHERN: I have a 3.5 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT.
