PBR MN Winter Open

The 2018 class in MN has produced many top level prospects, with many more still waiting patiently to make their commitments. One such prospect is Sam Hanson, the #4 ranked LHP of the 2018 class. Hanson is an intriguing two-way prospect that has a high ceiling on the mound and at the plate. Standing 6'4, 230lbs Sam is blessed with a big frame and size that strength coaches dream of getting their hands on. Sitting lower-mid 80's with his FB it's clear some quick twitch and lower half drive work will see this climb and add to already present arm-side fade. Consistently above average command of the 1/7 curve and CH. Shows great body control for his size in the field, on the mound, and at the plate. High hand slot keeps leverage throughout swing which shows great inside out pop when back side gets through. Coming off a knee surgery, Sam will be a closely watched prospect throughout the spring. We wish the best to Sam in his recruitment and upcoming season!

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?
I have heard from Minnesota State Mankato, St. Cloud State, NDSU, Alabama State, Oregon, and some others all via text/phone call/email.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?
I have taken a few visits and definitely hope to take more.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
I am looking to major in business.

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year, personally and as a team?
I only had a couple appearances on the mound due to my ACL and Meniscus injury at the end of April. But in one appearance I threw a complete game shutout 11K’s 2BB 2H 0ER, and had 1 HR before getting injured.

PBR: What goals do you have this year for yourself? What goals does your team have for the year?
I am now close to the end of my recovery from my knee injury, so my goals are to prepare myself for the season as best as I can, which has been going really well. I am expected to have a full recovery and come back better than before.  We have a strong senior class at Cathedral and we should have a good shot at getting back into the state tournament, and hopefully winning it.

PBR: Are you playing with anyone this winter? If so, where?
I may be ready for a tournament in February with Great Lakes Baseball Academy.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?
Just baseball now, used to do Soccer and Hockey.

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?
3.0 GPA and 25 ACT
