When Brad Archer (Lebanon, 2014, 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, RHP), the #13th ranked player in Missouri went to the Midwest Futures Games in August 2012, his baseball career started to take off.  Soon after colleges began to show interest and he began to take visits to area colleges.  Missouri, Central Florida and Missouri State were his top three choices. Missouri State made offer in October 2012, Archer accepted and decided to play for the Bears, just an hour way from his hometown.

At the Midwest Futures game in 2012, Archer was perhaps the biggest surprise on the mound. His velocity was sitting at 86-88-mph, and many could see the projection in his frame. He had the tools to be a consistent upper 80’s arm. Archer also showed some feel for his breaking ball and change up, producing ground ball after ground ball in four innings of work.

Archer is improving every time he takes the mound.  In Jupiter last month, Archer's velo was 90-plus, which he credits his off-season workout.  "I am currently working out every day after school at Cross Train in Lebanon (MO). Tim Cole, the owner, has created a workout specifically for me as a pitcher to help me get stronger in my weakest areas. I will start throwing bullpens again the first of December, working on my velocity and all of my pitches," Archer mentioned.

Last season, Archer led the Yellowjackets to a 14-10 record and district championship.  This season the expectations are very high. Many of Lebanon's starters are seniors that have played varsity since their sophomore year and have played together since since they were 9-years old.  Archer added, "We feel like it’s our time to prove something."

During the summer, Archer plays for the Midwest Nationals, based out of Springfield, Missouri.  He gives credit to the program and his coach, Dave Bingham for getting ready for NCAA Division I baseball. "I played for Coach Bingham so I have a lot of memorable experiences. Last summer was by far the best summer I have had playing ball. The Nationals program really has prepared me for life as a college baseball player, both on and off the field," Archer said.  He plans on playing for the Midwest Nationals next summer.

Missouri State has also committed two other Midwest Nationals, Jake and Jackson Walker from Jefferson City.  Coach Bingham commented, "It is great that area colleges find interest in our players and see they can help their program right away."

With Archer's work ethic and determination, there is no doubt he will step in and help the Missouri State rotation in 2015.
