On Wednesday, August 5, Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the Class of 2016 Games at Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia.  Nearly 100 uncommitted players in the 2016 class from Kansas and Missouri attended. 

Player profiles have been update with times, velocities and videos.  Below is a look at the catchers from the event.  In the days to come, we will break down the outfielders, infielders and pitchers. Catchers are listed in alphabetical order.  Players rankings will be updated in weeks to come.

Catchers

Wyatt Anderson, C, Mission Valley, 2016
Anderson is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. During batting practice, Anderson started in a balanced position, rhythm in lower half and hands, short stride, level path, 68 mph exit velo, runs a 7.91 60.  During defensive evaluations, pop times between 2.14 and 2.41, positional velo of 73 mph, high-three quarters release, clean exchange, somewhat accurate throws. 

Brett Bonar, C, Rose Hill, 2016
Bonar is a 6-foot-2 195-pound left-handed hitting catcher. During batting practice, Bonar had a controlled load, walking away from hands, small leg kick, fast bat speed, level to extension, line drives middle to pull side, 81 mph exit velo, went with pitch and singled to opposite field during game action.  During defensive evals, had pop times between 1.90-2.15, posted top pop time of the camp, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick release, throwing momentum towards target, mostly accurate throws. 

Nate Brewer, C, Andover, 2016
Brewer is a 6-foot 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, tall balanced set up, smooth load, no wasted movement, short stride, used middle of field during batting practice, 77 mph exit velo, ran a 7.75 60, Defensively, pop times at 2.28 to 2.56, clean catch and throw, fluid footwork, throws around the bag at second. 

Caleb Burnett, C, Wichita North, 2016
Barnett is a 5-foot-9 188-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, loads into back leg from balanced stance, short stride, uses hands well, middle approach, 75 mph exit velo, runs an 8.25 60, singled to right field during game.  On defense, pop times between 2.06 and 2.25, 71 mph positional velo, soft hands, quick transfer and release, mostly accurate throws.

Sean Cooley, C, Staley (MO), 2016
Cooley is a 5-foot-9 189-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Cooley runs a 7.40 and had an 88 mph exit velo, one of top left-handed exit velos of the event, hit line drives to pull side during batting practice, open stance, loose hands, quick bat, level path, power to pull gap.  Behind the plate, aggressive thrower, quick feet and release, clean transfer, 1.99 to 2.18 pop times, one to quickest pop times of the day, 79 mph positional velo. 

Jeremy Deckinger, C, Wichita Northwest, 2016
Deckinger is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, athletic stance, small stride, some hand load, consistent contact to middle of field during batting practice, level to extension, 79 mph exit velo, runs a 7.35 60.  During defensive evaluations, pop times between 2.25 and 2.39, 60 mph positional velo, throws mostly around bag, fluid footwork, clean exchange, over the top release.

Dalton Dinkel, C, Goddard Eisenhower, 2016
Dinkel is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, strong hands and lower half, minimal load, solid contact during batting practice, gap-to-gap, repeatable mechanics, 85 mph exit velo, 7.41 home-to-first, showed an advanced approach during game action hitting a pair of singles.  Defensively, pop times at 2.02 to 2.15, one of top pop times of day, 75 mph positional velo, aggressive with feet and arm, loose arm action, quick transfer and release, mostly accurate throws.

Aaron Easley, C, Liberty (MO), 2016
Easley is a 6-foot-2 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Easley ran a 7.47 60 and posted an 83 mph exit velo, controlled open to square stride, minimal load, level path, gap-to-gap approach, hands work inside ball, hit a rocket on elevated fast to opposite gap for single during game.  Defensively, pop times between 2.07 and 2.22, 80 mph positional velo, physical catcher, short over-the-top release, quick feet and transfer, throws have accuracy with carry to the bag. 

Jared Fry, C, Eudora, 2016
Fry is a 5-foot-10 160-pound switch-hitting catcher.  Fry runs a 8.09 60 and has a righty exit velo of 80 mph and lefty exit velo of 82 mph.  At the plate, smooth load into back leg from both sides, toe tap, strong hands, level path to extension from both side, gap-to-gap approach.  Behind the plate, 2.15 to 2.27 pop times, 74 mph positional velo, conventional over-the-top release, fluid footwork, clean exchange, throws mostly around bag. 

Brian Hawkins, C, Haysville Campus, 2016
Hawkins is a 5-foot-11 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Hawkins has an 82 mph exit velo and runs a 7.60.  At the plate, starts in a wide stance, loads against back side, small leg lift, produced line drives to middle of field during batting practice, strong build. Defensively, pop times between 2.31 and 2.47, 67 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fluid footwork, clean exchange, somewhat accurate throws.

Tanner Holen, C, Manhattan, 2016
Holen is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher, recently committed to Iowa Western CC.  Holen had an 84 mph exit velo and ran an 8.00 60.  During batting practice, he had loose hands and feel for the barrel, starts slightly open, some hand load, gap-to-gap approach.  Defensively, high three quarters release, quick release, momentum towards second base, clean exchange and quick footwork, 2.00 to 2.19 pop times, among top for the event, 80 mph positional velo, throws to first base base of bag. 

Jared Maneth, C, Great Bend, 2016
Maneth is a 6-foot- 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  Maneth runs a 7.59 60 and has a 77 mph exit velo.  Duirng batting practice, Maneth used the middle of the cage, consistent line drives, slightly open stance, controlled short stride, loose hands. Defensively, one of the top pop times of event at 2.02, 75 mph positional velo, high three-quarters release, mostly accurate throws, clean catch and throw. 

Marshall McCarl, C, Blue Valley, 2016
McCarl is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. McCarl has an 81 mph exit velo, and runs a 7.37 60.  Starts with slightly open stance, level path, gap-to-gap approach.  Behind the plate, has a pop times in the 2.28 to 2.56 range, 72 mph range, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws, fluid footwork, clean exchange. 

Koby Nguyen, C, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 2016
Nguyen is a 5-foot-10 197-pound right-handed catcher. Nguyen starts in a wide, slightly open stance at the plate, minimal stride, smooth load, strong quick hands, power to pull side, gap-to-gap approach, extension through contact, 90 mph exit velo, on of the top for the event, runs a 7.28 60. Behind the plate, over the top release, 2.07 to 2.25 pop times, 74 mph positional velo, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Adam North, C, Shawnee Mission South, 2016
North is a 6-foot 171-pound right-handed hitting catcher. North runsa  7.52 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo.  Offensively, North sits in back leg to load, slightly open, short stride, level path, gap-to-gap approach, consistent solid contact during batting practice, singled to left field in game action.  Defensively, 2.00 to 2.13 pop times, one of best pop times on the day, 74 mph positional velo, quick release, clean exchange, throws had carry, somewhat accurate to the bag.

Conor Phillips, C, Maize, 2016
Phillips is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Phillips runs a 7.56 60 and has a 76 mph exit velo.  He has balanced set up at the plate, smooth load, rhythm in hands, maintains barrel, gap-to-gap approach, lines drives to mostly middle of field during batting practice.  Behind the plate, high three quarters release, quick footwork with momentum towards second, 73 mph velo as catcher, consistent pop times between 2.16 and 2.19, mostly accurate throws.

Dawson Pomeroy, C, Shawnee Heights, 2016
Pomery is a 6-foot-3 180-pound switch-hitting catcher. From the left side, Pomeroy had an exit velo of 90 mph and an 88 mph exit velo from right side, he ran a 7.40 60.  At the plate, starts slightly open on both sides of the plate, short stride, quick hands, level to extension, showed ability to used whole field from both side, loose hands, consistent solid contact on both sides during batting practice. Behind the plate, some of best pop times of the event at 2.01 to 2.18, 80 mph positional velo, short high three quarters release, clean transfer, throws to third base side of bag.

Tate Swank, C, Burlington, 2016
Swank is a 5-foot-9 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Swank has a 79 mph exit velo with a 7.34 60.  At the plate, open stance, minimal load, short stride to square, short path to contact, level through contact, gap-to-gap approach, recorded two singles in game action.  Behind the plate, pop times in 2.10 to 2.17 range, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, quick footwork, clean transfer, plays through catch, somewhat accurate throws.

Brik Thompson, C, Minneapolis, 2016
Thompson is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Thompson has an exit velo of  79 mph and a 7.84 60 time.  At the plate, athletic set-up, quick rhythm, middle approach, lands slightly closed.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.22 and 2.39, 74 mph as a catcher, over-the-top arm slot, clean transfer, fluid footwork, accurate thrower when he get on top of baseball to throw, balanced blocker. 

Ray Vaca, C, Bishop Miege, 2016
Vaca is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Vaca has a 78 mph exit velo and runs a 7.09 60.  Offensively, open stance, quick hands, level path, gap-to-gap approach, singled to centerfield and SAC fly to center during the game.  Behind the plate, has pop times between 2.09 and 2.16, 72 mph positional velo, over the top release, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Eric Williams, 1B, Haven, 2016
Williams is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Williams ran a 7.33 60 and had an exit velo of  83 mph.  Starts with an open stance at the plate, minimal load, hands are in sync with lower half, gap-to-gap approach. Behind the plate, has pop times between 2.25 and 2.44, clean exchange, short over the top release,

Paul Wolff, C, Blue Valley West, 2016
Wolff is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  Wolff has an exit velo of 89 mph and runs a 7.84 60.  Athletic stance at the plate, smooth load, fast bat speed, loose hands, maintains barrel, line drives to middle-to-pull gap during BP, pull power, physical hitter. Behind the plate, 2.09 to 2.22 pop times, 77 mph positional velo, momentum through catch towards second base, over the top release, clean transfer, quick release, mostly accurate throws with carry.
