Kansas Underclass Games: Middle Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games at Wichita State on June 20.  Nearly 60 players from around Missouri in Kansas participated.  The players attending were in the 2019 and 2020 classes. 

Players profiles have been updated with times, velocities, videos and player profiles.  In the days to come we will break down the event position by position, taking a inside look at the outfielders today. Players listed below are in alphabetical order

Middle Infielders

Aidan Baltz SS / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Baltz is a 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.67 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, short and compact swing, balanced set up, short stride, lower half load, middle of the field approach, level swing swing path.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid action, soft hands, moves well to the ball, clean exchange, accurate throws.

Caden Bressler RHP / Paola, KS / 2020

Bressler is a 5-foot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.99 60 and a 5.17 home to first.  He ha san 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with an open stance, early to toe touch, minimal movement in hands to load, hits the ball to all fields, occasionally uphill bat path, loose hands.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, quick three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with feet, soft hands, clean exchange, accurate throws, strong frame, plays through the ball.

Kolin Demel 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Demel is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 8.21 60 and a 5.44 home to first.  He has a 73 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with a wide base, short stride, smooth and controlled load, some hand load, middle to pull side line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, clean exchange, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Dawson Durkes SS / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2020

Durkes is a 5-foot-9 150-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.30 60 and a 4.65 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, leg kick, slightly closed stride, aggressive swing, high finish in hands, gap-to-gap contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, over the top release, quick to the ball with footwork, momentum after the catch, clean exchange, short arm circle, mostly accurate throws.

Jordan Jackson RHP / Washburn Rural, KS / 2019

Jackson is a strong 6-foot-3 190-pound swatch-hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.66 60 and a 4.82 home to first.  He has a 90 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in open stance, in line stride, smooth load quick bat speed, occasional pull side power, contact was to the middle and pull side of the field during hitting evaluations, leverage in lower half, strong build, swing with intent.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, over the top release, momentum after catch, quick feet to the ball, clean exchange, accurate throws with carry to the base.

Brett Kennett SS / Olathe South , KS / 2019

Kennett is a long and lean 6-foot-3 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and a 4.35 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in a wide stance, short stride, no wasted movement in hands, level bat plane, simple and repeatable swing, stays inside ball, gap-to-gap approach. On the infield, over the top release, long arm circle,  athletic footwork, plays through the catch, hands and feet in sync, smooth exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Ryan Knipfer RHP / Derby , KS / 2019

Knipfer is a 5-foot-10 195-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas 2019 class.  He ran a 7.40 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin set up, in line stride, controlled and smooth load, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, clean glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Brevon Lee SS / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2020

Lee is an athletic 5-foot-7 138-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 6.77 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He ha san 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced swing, smooth load in back side, sometimes using a reverse toe touch, quick hands, swing produced mostly middle of the field line drives.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, quick feet to the ball, clean exchange, plays through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Elijah McCarter 2B / Liberal , KS / 2020

McCarter is a 5-foot-7 137-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 6.94 60 and a 4.66 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, slight load with rhythm, hands dominate the swing, body stays under control, middle to pull side line drives during batting practice. On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, field ball in front of feet, clean exchange on time with footwork, accurate throws.

 

 

Alec Michaud SS / Fort Scott , KS / 2019

Michaud is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.04 60 and 4.45 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 73 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth rhythm, solid middle to opposite field line drives, short stride, level bat path, repeats swing and shows feel for the barrel. On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields the ball in athletic position, momentum after the catch, clean exchange with quick footwork, accurate throws.

William Ponce SS / Wellsville, KS / 2020

Ponce is a 5-foot-6 130-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.00 60 and a 4.28 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, loads with slight dip in back leg, in line stride, aggressive and loose hands, level bat path, contact to middle and pull side of the field. On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, three quarters release, momentum after the catch, fluid footwork with clean glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws, most with carry.

Matthew Ronnebaum RHP / Blue Valley West, KS / 2019

Ronnebaum is a 6-foot-2 170-;pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and a 4.81 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance, in line stride, body stays under control, hands manage the barrel, mostly middle to pull side contact, level bat path.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, three quarters release, quick transfer and throw, loose arm action, momentum through the catch, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Brady Slavens SS / Olathe Northwest , KS / 2019

Slavens is a 6-foot-2 170-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class, recently committed to Wichita State.  He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.37 home to first.  He has a 91 mph exit velo. At the plate, aggressive swing, fast bat speed, power to pull side, balanced set up, leg kick, hands walk-away from stride, leverage in lower half, hit home run in game action down left field line.  On the infield, quick actions, attacks the ball, 90 mph positional velo, over the top release, momentum after fielding the ball, quick arm speed, loose arm action, hands and feet in sync, mostly accurate throws, lean and tall projectable frame.

Cole Sphar SS / Maize, KS / 2020

Sphar is a 5-foot-8 165-pound switch-hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.65 60 and 4.97 home to first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, no wasted movement, simple and compact swing, body stays under control during swing, swing produced mostly middle of the field line drives during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, loose three quarters release, quick catch and throw, smooth actions, mostly accurate throws, smooth footwork with quick exchange.

Wyatt Towe SS / Rock Bridge, MO / 2019

Towe is an athletic 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.18 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, balanced set up, short stride, no wasted movement in load, quick bat speed, level path, gap-to-gap approach, solid consistent contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, athletic actions, works through the ball from athletic fielding position, arm works, quick catch and throw, throws have carry, mostly accurate.
