MOKAN Fall Trials: Middle Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Fall Trials on October 28 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over 40 players in Missouri and Kansas in the 2022 to 2019 classes attended.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the Middle  infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Middle Infielders

Angel Bilbao SS / 2B / Bishop Ward, KS / 2020 Bilbao is an athletically built 6-foot 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.58 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, slight weight shift to back side, no wasted movement in hands, short stride, showed feel for the ball with middle to pull side line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, loose over the top arm action, arm works from different slots, soft hands with quick exchange, smooth actions to the ball, athletic actions with mostly accurate throws.

Calvin Delich OF / SS / Iola , KS / 2020 Delich is a 5-foot-10 160-pound switch hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.03 60 and a 4.26 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a wide base, loads against back side with leg lift, in line stride, similar stance and load from both sides of the plate, had feel for barrel from both sides, gap to gap approach from the left side with more pull side contact on the right side. On the infield, 81 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, fields ball in athletic position, quick movements to the ball, feet create momentum to throw after the catch, accurate throws across the diamond.

Kayden Embry SS / 2B / Bishop Carroll , KS / 2023 Embry is a 5-foot-4 105-pound right-anded hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2023 class.  He ran a 8.61 60 and a 5.27 home to first.  He has a 68 mph exit velocity. At the plate, repeatable swing, minimal load, short and quick stride, level path, has feel for the ball with consistent middle to pull side line drives, short and compact swing.  On the infield, 62 mph positional velocity, loose high three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball with footwork, athletic actions, quick exchange with mostly accurate throws.  Player to follow with athletic action as he continues to develop physically.

Vincent Esparza SS / RHP / Bishop Ward, KS / 2019 Esparza is an athletically 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance with some pre-pitch rhythm, controlled weight shift to back side, short stride, accelerates through ball with quick bat speed and loose hands, has feel for barrel, occasional power to pull side, gap to gap approach, stays on ball through contact.  On the infield, 86 mph positional velocity, athletic and controlled actions, plays through the ball with smooth footwork, clean exchange with soft hands, mostly accurate throws.

Ethan Haufler SS / OF / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2020 Haufler is a lean 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.10 60 and a 4.83 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, minimal load, short inline stride, attacks ball, loose hands with quick bat whip, mostly middle of the field line drives with gap to gap approach.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, 72 mph positional velocity, smooth actions in footwork and exchange, plays throw the ball with momentum in feet, mostly accurate throws.

Brock Howerton SS / 2B / Center , MO / 2020 Howerton is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.19 60 and a 4.64 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, pre-pitch rhythm in hand, smooth load to back side, short in line stride, slight lift to bat path, quick bat speed, mostly middle to pull side contact during hitting evals.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with footwork with quick exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Jaden Melissinas SS / RHP / Fort osage, MO / 2020 Melissinas is a strong 5-foot-10 173-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He Ran a 7.38 60 and a 4.59 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, pre-swing rhythm in hands, slightly closed stride, controlled leg lift, slight lift to swing path, middle to pull side contact, repeats swing.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arms slot, quick transfer and throw, fields ball out front, quick to the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Matt Miller SS / OF / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020 Miller is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class. Miller ran a 6.90 60 and a 4.41 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slight pre-swing rhythm with accelerated hands, hands work inside the ball, quick bat speed, has feel for the barrel, gap to gap line drives during hitting evals. On the infield, 74 mph positional velocity,  works around ball and through the catch, quick transfer and release, high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork that creates momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws.

Blake Mozley SS / 2B / Ozark , MO / 2019 Mozley, a Missouri State commit, is a well built 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.15 60 and 4.53 home to first.  He has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall stance, no wasted movement in hands, loads with controlled leg kick, aggressive swing, level path through extension, good feel for the barrel with consistent contact to middle and pull side, flashes power, hits with leverage in lower half.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw with feet creating momentum though the catch, soft hands, transfer in sync with footwork, one of the top infielders in Missouri’s 2019 with draft potential.

Anthony Ramirez SS / 2B / Lees Summit West, MO / 2020 Ramirez is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.77 60 and a 4.76 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, short and simple swing, balanced set up, slight weight shift to back side to load, short stride, loose hands, level path, mostly middle to pull side contact, good feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 75 positional velocity, smooth actions, clean exchange, high three quarters arm slot, soft hands, footwork on time with transfer and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Mickey Simpson SS / C / Grain Valley , MO / 2019 Simpson is a lean and projectable 5-foot-11 165-pound switch hitting  shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.40 60 and a 4.71 home to first.  He had an 85 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance with rhythm in hands, similar set up from both side, controlled leg lift, accelerated loose hands during swing, level path with middle of the field approach. On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchange, gains ground to first base after catch, works though the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Eastin White 2B / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020 White is an athletically built 5-foot-11 145-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.38 60 and a 4.69 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load and accelerated swing with loose hands and level path, hits with balance in lower half, level path staying on ball through contact, gap to gap approach with consistent line drives.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, smooth footwork to the ball, soft hands, exchange on time with footwork, mostly accurate throws.
