MOKAN Summer Trials: Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report- Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trials on July 16 at LaRoche Baseball Complex in Fort Scott, Kansas. Over thirty five players in the 2024-2020 classes attended.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the Pitchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order

Pitchers

Jacob Becker RHP / 3B / Shawnee Heights , KS / 2021

Becker shows a larger frame, lean build and room for physical growth as he develops. Becker has an athletic and repeatable delivery, higher leg kick, works at a quicker tempo, gains momentum down the mound, some rhythm to his delivery, hands and stride leg synced up, creates downhill tilt with shoulders, long arm action with high three-quarter release. Fastball sits 80-82 mph, arm side run, thrown for strikes, arm side run with occasional sink, changeup is 73-74 mph, near fastball arm speed, arm side run, curveball is thrown aggressive at 65-67 mph with 11-to-5 shape, sharp bite at times.

Jake Beckmann OF / RHP / Frontenac , KS / 2020

Beckman shows a lean frame and some athleticism, delivery is at a slower tempo, repeats, some effort to delivery, accelerates down the mound, clean and loose arm action, works from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was thrown for strikes at the bottom of the zone, arm side run, 70-81 mph, curveball proves to Beckman’s best pitch, thrown at  70-72 mph, 11-to-5 shape, sharp at times, near fastball arm speed, changeup was thrown aggressively at 77-78 mph with some arm side run.

Logan Brooks RHP / OF / Hume, MO / 2022

Brooks shows a lean frame and long limbs on the mound. Delivery is slightly rushed but has some rhythm, accelerates momentum down the mound, controlled leg lift, in line stride towards target, arms and legs coming at the hitter, aggressive lower half, quick arm with loose arm action, high three-quarter release. Fastball is 78-80 mph, arm side run, late action, around the zone, changeup has a chance to be quality pitch, 74-75 mph with some depth, curveball is 67-69 mph, mostly gradual action.

Charles Cahalan OF / RHP / Bishop Miege, KS / 2022

Cahalan’s delivery is repeatable, directional towards home plate, smooth actions down the mound, some deception, works at a slower tempo, minimal head movement throughout delivery, three-quarter release, quality mix of pitches thrown for strikes. Fastball sits 72-74 mph, tops at 75 mph, arm side run, thrown for strikes to arm side part of the plate, changeup is 66-67 mph, arm side run, some depth, near fastball arm speed, curveball is sharp at times, 64-67 mph, 11-to-5 shape.

Tegan Cain RHP / OF / Ellis, KS / 2021

Cain shows a thicker build and flashes some physicality. His delivery has some rhythm to it, hands are in sync with his stride leg, controlled leg lift, in line stride towards home plate, long arm action with some quickness to it, high three-quarter release, creates downhill tilt as he works down the mound. Fastball sits 82-84 mph, some arm side run, around the zone, curveball is 66-69 mph, slurve type spin, near fastball arm speed, changeup shows some depth with swing and miss potential while sitting between 72-74 mph.

Cory Gleason 1B / 3B / Goddard Eisenhower, KS / 2021

Gleason has an athletic build and long limbs, delivery has some deception with a slight hitch after stride leg drops, works at a slower tempo, gains momentum as he works down the mound, controlled leg lift, directional with stride, hides the ball with his back swing, three-quarter release. Fastball sits 82-84 mph, late run to Gleason’s arm side, around the strike zone, changeup is 72-74 mph with arm side run, curveball sat 69-70 mph, slider type spin.

Russell Lucas III SS / 3B / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2022

Lucas has a simple and compact delivery, aggressive lower half, controlled leg lift, shows some aggressiveness and athleticism as he works down the mound, directional with stride, shorter back swing with arm, clean arm action, three-quarter release. Fastball sat 74-78 mph at the event, occasional run, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, curveball is thrown aggressively at 67-69 mph, sharp bite at times, changeup is 73-75 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Quinn Price RHP / C / Mount Vernon, MO / 2020

Price’s large frame creates some mound presence, delivery is at a quicker tempo, max effort, high leg lift, accelerates and is very aggressive down the mound, over the top slot, long and in line stride. Fastball sits 80-82 mph, tops at 84 mph, jumps out of the hand, around the zone, splitty is 72 mph, some tumbling action, slider is thrown aggressively at 70-71 mph, curveball shows more depth at 68-69 mph. 

Vince Ray 2B / SS / Rockhurst, MO / 2022

Ray has a slender frame, long limbs, quick arm and shows athletic movements as he works down the mound, simple delivery with fluid movements, controlled leg lift, easy delivery with loose arm action, three-quarter release. Fastball is 74-77 mph, arm side run, late action, changeup has some swing and miss potential, good fading action, 68-70 mph, slider is 66-67 mph, mostly gradual action, late bite at times, chance to be a plus pitch if he continues to develop it.

Bo Reeves LHP / OF / Rossville, KS / 2021

Reeves has an athletic build, long limbs and a projectable frame. Delivery is directional towards home plate, controlled leg lift, some effort, gains momentum as he travels down the mound, downhill tilt with shoulders, short arm swing in back, over the top release. Fastball sat 78-80 mph, tops at 82 mph, some arm side run, around the strike zone, changeup is 72-74 mph, curveball proved to be his best pitch at the event, 65-66 mph, late downward action, 12-to-6 shape.

Dylan Snider OF / RHP / Lockwood, MO / 2023

Snider shows a simple delivery, controlled leg lift, directional towards home plate, slower tempo to his delivery, gains momentum down the mound, hides the ball behind his body with his arm swing, clean arm action from a high three-quarter release. Fastball sat 60-64 mph, tops at 65, arm side run, changeup proved to be his best pitch at the event, 58-61 mph, arm side run, curveball is 51-52 mph, gradual action.

Braden Tucker OF / RHP / Staley , MO / 2022

Tucker is long with a lean frame, mostly smooth delivery, arms and legs coming at the hitter, controlled leg lift, in line stride, some rhythm to hands and stride leg as they work in sync, clean arm action, three-quarter release, athletic finish. Fastball is 71-74 mph, arm side run, thrown mostly to arm side part of the plate, changeup has good fading action at 67-68 mph, curveball shows gradual action while being clocked between 63-65 mph.

Hunter Wohler OF / RHP / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2021

Wohler has a smooth and connected delivery, directional towards home plate, high but controlled leg kick, smooth actions down the mound, loose arm action from a high three-quarter release, hides the ball well behind a higher glove side and high leg kick. Fastball sits 73-75 mph, tops at 76 mph, arm side run, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, changeup shows good depth, 70-71 mph, fastball arm speed, curveball proved to be his best pitch at the event, sharp at times with downward action, 11-to-5 shape, 63-65 mph.
