2018 Summer Schedule: Top Fastball Velocities

The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi Scouting staff had the chance to see several quality arm through our summer schedule of events, playing host to more than 150 participants – from around the region.

Today we take a look at the Top Pitching velocity from our 2018 summer events.

Farmer Abendroth RHP / Warren Central, MS / 2019

Louisiana State recruit, worked his fastball at 88-91 mph with angle and occasional arm-side life. While he set hitters up with a hard 12/6 curveball that ranged between 72-77 mph, he finished the deal with his lively fastball. The long-limb, rail-thin 6-foot-5, 170-pound right-hander also flashed an 80-82 mph change up with slight fading action.

Landon Gartman RHP / Enterprise, MS / 2019

The Pearl River CC recruit was able to repeat his delivery with relative ease down the mound, and pumped strikes at 86-89 mph. Displayed good feel for his breaking ball at 74-76 that received several swings and misses with depth and late action.

Josh Hill RHP / 2B / Indianola Academy, MS / 2019

The uncommited right-hander pumped strikes at 86-88, topping at 89 mph, while mixing in a 72-73 mph breaking ball, and a 79 mph changeup. The arm works well from a high-¾ slot and Hill has the look of an arm with more in the tank.

Caleb Sterling C / RHP / Warren Central, MS / 2019

The uncommited catcher and right-handed pitcher ran his fastball up to 88 mph while pitching 83-86 mph. Arm works well from back to front with in-line direction and athletic finish. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-69 mph and changeup showed slight fading action to the arm side at 68-72 mph.

Landon Rascoe RHP / 3B / Hattiesburg , MS / 2019

The uncommited right hander's arm strength plays well on the mound, where he pumped fastball at 85-87 mph. Flashed the ability to spin a tight breaking ball at times, with 11/5 shape and depth at 68-74 mph and a tighter spinning slider at 75-76 mph.

Bo Gatlin SS / RHP / Oxford, MS / 2019

Uncommited and potential two way player, works from a high-3/4 release with fluid rhythm and control in delivery ran his fastball up to 86 mph. Dominated the zone, showing the ability to command multiple pitches. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape at 72-76 mph with depth, while throwing a change with slight fading action at 75-76 mph.

Kris Jones OF / RHP / Oak Grove , MS / 2019

A Pearl River CC recuit and two-way player jumped on the mound and pitched 83-86 mph with fastball. Breaking ball showed 12/6 shape with sharp break, near fastball arm speed and control at 68-70 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and sinking action at 72-73 mph.

Alan Kivett RHP / 3B / Warren Central, MS / 2020

Working from a high slot, the two-way player sat 83-86 and spun a solid 11/5 curveball at 68-70 mph. Also threw a couple of nice changeups with fading action at 72-74 mph.

Chase Logan SS / RHP / Grenada, MS / 2019

East Mississippi CC recruit displayed a quick mid-3/4 stroke running his fastball up to 86 mph fastball. The breaking ball should continue to improve but showed near 12/6 with depth at 67-69 mph. The breaking ball should continue to improve but showed near 11/5 with depth at 67-69 mph.

Austin Dean RHP / 1B / Pearl River Central, MS / 2019

Pearl River CC recruit, has a durable frame at 6-foot-2, 247-pound and work from a short and high arm stroke. His fastball was 82-85 with occasional arm side run. Threw his breaking ball with near 12/6 shape at 71-75 that had solid depth and action.

Patrick Little RHP / West Jones, MS / 2018

Hinds CC recruit, has a long, wiry frame at 6-foot-7, 185-pound and work from a smooth arm stroke and a high-¾ slot. His fastball was 82-85, and threw his breaking ball with near 12/6 shape at 71-75 for a strike. Works down the mound with good extension and angle out front in delivery.

Mac Sims RHP / SS / DeSoto Central, MS / 2020

The right-hander displayed a quick 3/4 stroke with up tempo rhythm in delivery. Ran his fastball up to 85 mph while pitching 81-83 mph with solid command and arm side action. The breaking ball displayed sweeping action at 71-76 mph.
