Commitment Watch: Mississippi

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

Although there are still many quality players available in the 2018 class, the past few weeks have seen several of the top prospects make verbal commitments. Today, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff looks at several of the recent verbal commits from around the state of Mississippi in this addition of Commitment Watch.

Fisher Norris, 3B, Seminary, 2018
Norris verbally committed to Pearl River Community College. At the plate, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-hander shows balance with a simple, direct approach. His bat speed and leverage through the zone suggests that he may find much more power in the future as his frame continues to develop. As a corner infielder, Norris shows loose, athletic actions, with soft hands while making throws with accuracy and carry. He cleanly fields balls from side to side showing off above average athleticism.

Adarius Myers, OF, Seminary, 2018
Myers verbally committed to Pearl River Community College. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder outfielder is a 6.8 runner with sure hands and possesses a solid, 83 mph positional arm. At the plate, he is balanced with a simple, light leg kick, with looseness in his hands. He exhibits a quick, direct path, impacting the ball firmly with line drives flying from gap to gap with occasional pull side power.

Kace Garner, C, Northwest Rankin, 2018
Garner verbally commits to Meridian. Garner has displayed solid defensive actions, with consistent pop times of 1.97-2.15 between innings. As a right-handed hitter Garner has shown a line drive type approach, bat speed with consistent hard contact.

Eldeshun Miller, 1B, Raymond, 2018
Miller verbally commits to Hinds Community College. Miller has strong, physical frame with present strength.  The right-handed hitting first baseman displayed simple load, inconsistent rhythm and bat speed with a short swing that is in and out of zone. Miller’s tools suggest a potential to hit for power.

Joshua Day, RHP, Jefferson County, 2018
Day verbally commits to Southwest Community College. Day has a long and athletic frame with room for added strength. He has showcased an easy, clean arm action with in-line direction and regular effort. Throwing from a high-3/4 release, Day sat 82-83 mph and command fastball down in zone. Flashed a breaking ball at 69 mph with developing spin and a changeup that showed fading action at 75 mph.
