Future Game Trials South: Infield Analysis

 The Future Games Trials South event took place on Tuesday, June 5th, at Southwest Community College, in Summit, MS. The open event saw seven 2020 and 2021 prospects from across the state of Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches, and the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff.

Today, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff takes a deeper look at infield performances from last week’s event.

Alex Schuster SS / 2B / Ethel, MS / 2021

Athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Displayed athleticism running a 7.06 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter starting from stacked and open setup with hands starting above shoulder height. Subtle step working closed with fluid simple rhythm and balance. Quick hands working into a flat, rotational path that produced an exit velocity 80 mph. Defender that worked into athletic fielding position with decent footwork and receptive hands. Funneled ball deep as he works into a clean transfer and short, high-3/4 release with stiffness producing a positional velocity of 75 mph.

Matt Jones OF / RHP / Jim Hill, MS / 2020

Athletic 5-foot-6, 150-pound frame. Right-handed hitter starting from tall setup with a loose relaxed rhythm in hand. Slight step back before loading with hanging leg lift, lands balanced with short stride. Short, direct path with whippy uphill finish through the zone that produced an exit velocity 76 mph. Defender with smooth footwork and receptive hands out front working into clean exchanges and high-3/4 release, recording an outfield positional velocity of 74 mph and an infield positional velocity of 76 mph.

Thomas Hollingsworth C / SS / Germantown, MS / 2021

Long-limb, wiry 6-foot, 130-pound frame. Right-handed hitter starting from tall and open setup with a loose relaxed rhythm and high hands. Works closed with toe tap rhythm and short controlled stride. Short, direct stroke with aggressive approach and natural uphill finish that produced an exit velocity 80 mph. Infielder that worked through balls well with deliberate footwork and receptive hands. Long clean exchange into a short high-3/4 arm swing producing a positional velocity of 79 mph,

+ Kaden Slocum, SS, Oak Forest Academy, 2021
Athletic 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame. Right-handed hitter starting from tall and open setup with big, loose rhythm in hands. Loads with a simple leg lift and short stride. Short stroke with quickness in hands that produced an exit velocity 80 mph. Defender that worked into athletic fielding position with fluid footwork and receptive hands out front. Clean exchange and short high-3/4 release with slight wrap that produced a positional velocity of 76 mph. Showed athleticism running a 7.05 60-yard dash.
