Mississippi Open: Outfield Analysis

The Mississippi Open took place on Tuesday July 11th, in Summit, MS. The open event saw players from all across the state of Mississippi in attendance.

In the coming days we will have a complete analysis from the event, but today we will begin with analysis from the outfielders in attendance.

Outfield

+ Ben Cooper, OF, Magnolia Heights, 2020Thick 5-foot-8, 170-pound frame. Left-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with  hands low and tight. Leg lift load, no load in hands, with short stride landing balanced and on front side. Right field approach, slight uphill path with developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 67 mph. Outfielder with average hands, developing footwork, clean exchanges while fielding baseball deep, working through athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with developing arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 67 mph. Ran a 7.81 60-yard dash.

+ John Cooper, OF, Magnolia Heights, 2020
Average 5-foot-7, 120-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with high hands.  Works backwards in load, subtle leg lift, long stride, landing hard on front side. Level path with developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 64 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork, clean exchanges while fielding baseball deep, working through athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with developing arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 67 mph.

+ JaQuan Copeland, OF, Hazlehurst, 2020
Athletic 5-foot-11, 153-pound frame, with room for added strength. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with high hands.  Works backwards in load, really loading on backside, with short stride, and early rhythm. Left-center field approach, level path with developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Outfielder with average hands, developing footwork, clean exchanges while working through baseball athletically. Short, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release, produced a positional velocity of 73 mph. Displayed athleticism running 7.01 60-yard dash.

+ Devin Daniels, OF, East Marion, 2020
Athletic 5-foot-6, 175-pound frame. Displayed athleticism running 6.74 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with high hands.  Works backwards in load, mechanically simple, sitting on back side. Slight up-hill path with developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 76 mph. Outfielder with soft hands, developing footwork, clean exchanges while working through baseball athletically. Short, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release, produced a positional velocity of 75 mph.

+ Dexter Jordan, OF, Hattiesburg, 2018
6-foot, 193-pound strong, athletic frame. As right-handed hitter starts tall , athlethic setup, with feet slightly wider than shoulder and hands in high position. Subtle leg lift to load and allow hand separation, getting into balanced hitting position on-time. Line drive type approach with level path and solid bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 88 mph. Outfielder with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while working through athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release, produced a positional velocity of 80 mph.

+ Devin Kennedy, OF, O’Bannon, 2018
Average 5-foot-10, 205-pound frame. Left-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with hands slightly above shoulders.  Mechanically quiet, short stride, with stiff rhythm. Right field approach, slight up-hill path, in and out of zone, with developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 74 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork, clean exchanges while fielding baseball deep. Short, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release, produced a positional velocity of 58 mph.

+ Landry McQueen, OF, Seminary, 2018
Athletic 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards in load, short stride, and loose rhythm in hands. Mechanically simple, with left-center field type approach with level swing path, early rhythm, and solid bat speed; produced exit velocity of 85 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork and long, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Long high-3/4 arm action with and accuracy and carry, recorded a positional velocity of 81 mph. Showed athleticism running a 7.09 60-yard dash.

+ Adarius Myers, OF, Seminary, 2018
Athletic 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. Displayed athleticism running a 6.81 60-yard dash. Outfielder with soft hands, fluid footwork and clean, quick exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Long high-3/4 arm action with and accuracy and carry, recorded a positional velocity of 83 mph. Right-handed hitter with balanced, athletic setup. Big rhythm in hands, middle-to-pull side of the field with a direct, level path, showed solid bat speed with consistent hard contact, produced exit velocity of 80 mph.

+ Kamon Shelwood, Newton County, 2018
6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with room for added strength. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards with subtle toe tape. Fluid rhythm with, level swing rotational path. Pull approach with physical strength, produced exit velocity of 89 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, developing footwork with long, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Long high-3/4 arm action with carry, recorded a positional velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.29 60-yard dash.

+ Xavier Wansley,OF, Terry, 2018
Thick 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame. Right-handed hitter starts tall, athlethic setup, with feet slightly wider than shoulder and hands in low position. Works backwards in load and allow hand separation, getting into balanced hitting position on-time. Line drive/pull type approach with level path, developing bat speed, and strength in swing; producing an exit velocity of 75 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork with long, clean exchanges fielding baseball deep while playing through ball athletically. Short high-3/4 arm action, recorded a positional velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 7.51 60-yard dash.
