Mississippi Scout Blog: Week 5 Games

Matt Miller
State Director

The Mississippi Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Scouting Staff during the season. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects, and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times, and more.

Continue to check back over the course of the week, as the Mississippi Scouting Staff will continue to add scouting reports.

Monday, MARCH 14TH

+ RHP Drew Williams (2023) of Starkville Academy had a stellar outing this week. The junior working into the low 80's with his fastball featuring a very polished and deadly change up. Williams also showed decent spin but the change up was what kept hitters off balance as they struggled to get their timing.

+ 2B/OF Randall Futral (2022) of Starkville Academy had a couple of big hits for the Volunteers on Monday. The Jones College recruit uses a controlled toe tap for timing and though not a larger framed player he has lots of pop and can find the gaps and occasionally puts it over the wall.  Also has plenty of in-game speed.

+ RHP Josh Lee (2023) of Gulfport showed off some next level mound ability on Monday. The Pearl River CC recruit worked his fastball up to 91 mph with an easy delivery and tempo that made it seem even harder to opposing hitters. His secondary stuff was solid as well with great feel for both his hard late biting slider and curveball for some added depth.

+ RHP Connor Brooks (2022) of Northwest Rankin was electric on Monday night. The Jones College recruit had his fastball up to 91 mph with very sharp action to his breaking ball. Brooks was a little wild at times last season but has figured some things out and is now showing some very serious upside. Look forward to seeing his continued progress!

Tuesday, MARCH 15TH

+ RHP Nick Monistere (2022) of Northwest Rankin is one of the more complete pitchers in Mississippi. The Southern Miss recruit works both sides of the plate with multiple pitches with very good secondary stuff. Monistere worked in the 87-90 range on Tuesday but the ability to move the ball around the plate is most impressive. Northwest Rankin looks to make it back to Trustmark Park and Monistere will be a big part of their efforts.

+ LHP Bradley Loftin (2022) of DeSoto Central has one of the top high school change ups in the country. We first saw it two years ago and it was very impressive then and has only gotten better as velocity has become a bigger part of the lefty's game. With a fastball that runs into the low 90's, along with solid spin, Loftin is considered a legitimate draft possibility this summer.
