Prospect Q&A: 1B Hunter Richardson

The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with Enterprise Lincoln first baseman, Hunter Richardson to discuss his recent commitment to Jones County Junior College. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Richardson: To find a good place to continue my academic and athletic career.
PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Richardson: Location did not play a role in my decision
PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Richardson: At a USM showcase. My relationship developed through talking on the phone and going to a showcase there.
PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Richardson: Austin Kelly because he can do anything on a baseball field
PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Richardson: When I was 14 and hit at the power showcase against some of the best players in the county. I have been serious about taking my game to the next level since before I was in high school.
PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Richardson: For them to have a good athletic and academic program and for it to feel like a place I would be comfortable at.
PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Richardson: Hitting. To get runners over and or across the plate.
PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Richardson: My speed. I will practice hard during practice and do extra stuff to improve my footwork.
PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Richardson: To never give up on their dream and always be the hardest worker around
PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Richardson: I workout, hit, keep my arm in shape and diet.
PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Richardson: There is something about it that feels like home to me. Key factors were if I liked the coaches, if they had past success, and the facilities.
PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Richardson: East central, Mississippi Gulf Coast, and Copiah-Lincoln CC
