Quick Hits: Future Game Trials North

The Future Games Trials South event took place on Tuesday, June 5th, at Southwest Community College, in Summit, MS. The open event saw several 2020 and 2021 prospects from across the state of Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches, and the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff.

Today, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff takes another look at a few more quick hits, observations and revelations from Tuesday’s Future Game Trials.

+ 2020 RHP Weston Fuller (Lewisburg HS) has a sturdy frame at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds and sat 81-83 mph with his fastball. The fastball was thrown for a strike and flashed occasional arm side run. Threw a curveball with early shape at 68-71 mph, while flashing a slider with tighter spin at 68-70 mph.

+ 2020 Parker Allen (Copiah Academy) works clean and easy arm stroke from a high-¾ slot with his fastball sitting at 75-79 mph. A 6-foot-3, 185-pound left-hander flashed a short spinning breaking ball at 69-71 mph while change showed slight fade at 68-71 mph.

+ 2020 Maximus Maldonado (Fordham Prep., NY) has a physical, projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. Maldonado worked his fastball between 79-80 mph and showed good downward plan out of the hand. The off-speed is still developing but should continue to improve as a he solidifies an arm slot.

+ 2020 SS/RHP Mac Sims (DeSoto Central HS) has an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame with an aggressive approach at the plat. The left-handed hitter took a solid round of batting practice showcasing loose, quick hands through the zone. As a defender worked with fundamental footwork into clean midline exchange throwing from multiple arm slots that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph.

+ 2020 RHP Conner Thomson (Canton Academy) has a simple swing with rhythm in setup. The right-handed hitter consistently found barrel during his batting practice round with a short, flat stroke. Defensively moved with easy footwork working into a clean midline exchange.

+ 2022 RHP Austin Anderson (South Panola HS) has a maturing 5-foot-10, 144-pound frame with quickness in arm stroke. Sat 73-76 mph with fastball while breaking ball showed depth at 66-68 mph. Displayed ability to repeat delivery and command zone with multiple pitches. With the quickness in arm, body control and maturing frame one can project a velocity jump will come.
