Recap: State Games of Mississippi Day 3

On Wednesday, PBR Mississippi was on the campus of Meridian Community College for day three of the State Games of Mississippi All-Star baseball action. Day three would consist of four games, two of which were elimination games.

There will be more coverage from the week long event, but for today here is a quick brain dump of game notes and prospects that our staff took note of.

District 1 eliminates District 3, 2-1
Game one of the day was a well matched contest, with district one claiming a 2-1 victory and eliminating district three.

+ 2018 Ty Hill, OF, (Saltillo), is a right-handed hitter with a small leg lift, that gets into hitting position on time while landing slightly over front side. Hill showed a short aggressive swing with solid bat speed and some strength in swing.

+ 2019 Shawn Weathersbee, (Thrasher), is a right-handed hitter with athletic setup, mechanically quiet and simple, fluid load while maintaining rhythm throughout. Weathersbee showed solid bat speed, on slight uphill plane, with some stiffness and effort in swing. Displayed athletic ability posting a 6.7 second 60-yard dash time on the scout day.

District 8 Eliminates District 2, 5-2
District eight takes early lead and holds on, eliminating district two, 5-2.

+ 2018 Trey Forsythe, (D’Iberville), had a productive offensive day with multiple hits, including a solo homerun. Forsythe showed a short swing with strength at contact and backspin ability.

+ 2019 Nick Skaggs, catcher, (Biloxi), showed solid arm strength from behind the dish with 1.95-2.15 second pop times between innings. Skaggs also showcased solid bat speed.

+ 2018 Hendrix Cooley, 1B/3B (Southaven), has smooth, fluid rhythm and was consistently on time. Cooley flashed a left-center field approach with some strength in swing.

+ 2018 Colton Hipp, SS, (Vancleace), showed solid defensive action with athletic footwork, soft hands and quick clean transfers. As a right-handed hitter Hipp has a short, gap-to-gap approach and was able to consistently find barrel.

District 4 wins 15-3 over District 5

+ 2018 Al Dumas, OF, (Eupora), displayed consistency as a right handed hitter. Dumas keep hands tight to body, while not loading backwards and taking a short direct path to the ball. Showed gap-to-gap approach with backspin ability and proportional strength.

+ 2018 Drew Pounders, (New Hope), is a left-handed hitter, with quite mechanics, fluid load, while maintaining rhythm throughout. Pounders was consistently on time, with short compact swing and proportional strength at contact.

+ East Central CC recruit, 2018 Eli Harrison has a short arm action into high-3/4 release, pop time between innings of 2.0-2.15 seconds. Harrison is a left-handed hitter, with quite mechanics, fluid load, while maintaining rhythm throughout.

+ 2019 Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones) hits from the right side and presented a short swing with a flat bat and solid bat speed. Ducksworth moved well laterally as middle infielder and showed good arm strength with carry across to first base.

District 6 Defeats District 7, 9-6

+ 2019 Bryson Ware, SS, (Germantown), displayed short and direct path, on a level plane with solid bat speed and consistent rhythm. As an infielder, Ware moved well laterally showing soft hands, direct routes and arm strength with carry to first base.

+ 2018 Kace Garner, Catcher, (Northwest Rankin), hits from the right side with smooth, consistent rhythm. Garner presented solid bat speed, with proportional strength and backspin ability with a left center field approach, hit solo homerun.

+ University of Layfayette recruit, 2018 Cade Killingsworth (North Pike), as right-handed pitcher has a high-3/4 release with smooth delivery, in-line direction, landing square, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 83-84 mph, touching 85 with control. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with tight spin, and solid depth at 72-73 mph.

+ 2018 Trey Hobgood (Columbia) is a right-handed hitter, with balanced setup and fluid rhythm in hands. Hobgood showed a short aggressive swing with some strength and stiffness.
