Updated 2023 Mississippi Player Rankings
September 5, 2022
The summer of 2022 coming to a close means it's time to revisit the player rankings for all three classes, and next up is the Class of 2023. We've been able to get a true & honest look at most of these prospects this summer, whether it be at tournaments at LakePoint Sports, a showcase setting or at a high school game this past spring. This class has continued to fill out over the past year with numerous prospects that made a splash onto the scene this spring and summer.
We are expecting big things and are looking forward to following this talented 2023 class into their final campaigns of high school baseball this upcoming spring.
the top-5
Cooper Pratt (Magnolia Heights)
+ Making a jump in the rankings to the top spot is Pratt. A tall, lean infielder from Magnolia Heights continues to impress each time we see him. With advanced defensive ability and strong, accurate throwing arm (up to 91 mph) he could handle both SS or 3B at the next level. Another Ole miss recruit, Pratt continues to improve at the plate as well with a solid line drive, pull side approach and exit velocities into the low 90’s. He also shows excellent speed and hopes to help lead the Chiefs to yet another State Championship.
Cooper Pratt (2023) of Magnolia Heights was very impressive. The @OleMissBSB recruit shows off a polished swing and was a standout during his defensive round with a 90 mph velo across the diamond. @CooperPratt4 @MHChiefBaseball @prepbaseball pic.twitter.com/BFYpVMSXFb

+ Coming in a No. 2 is the the sturdy, athletic framed catcher was a big pick up for Oxford last season as he relocated from South Carolina. Smithwick brought his quick left handed bat and middle of the order potential with him and finished hitting a team high .432 with 5 home runs. With elite defensive skills as well, the Ole Miss recruit looks to help the Chargers advance deep into the 6A playoffs again this spring.
Campbell Smithwick (2023) of Oxford had some quality at bats last night. Here the Ole Miss recruit finds a hole through the infield on two different occasions for big hits. @campbellrsoup @OxfordBaseball1 @OleMissBSB pic.twitter.com/kLwQTQjXIH

+ Sliding in to the No. 3 spot in the updated rankings is another athletically built Ole Miss recruit from Saint Stanislaus, Farni has advanced pop (9 home runs last spring) with a very rhythmic swing and lightning quick hands from both sides of the plate. With a strong arm, good speed and instincts Farni also is a solid defender with the ability to play all three outfield positions. Farsi shows upside on the mound as well with a fastball that reaches the low 90’s and could be a factor as the Rockachaws look to advance further into the playoffs this year.
We saw the athleticism at our Preseason All-State Showcase in January. We got a chance to see it in-game tonight. Seth Farni of St. Stanislaus finds a pitch up in the zone and unloads. @Sfarni_4 @StStanBaseball @ShooterHunt ? pic.twitter.com/3bBbLJG8EA

+ Moving into the No. 4 slot of our 2023 rankings update is a huge piece of the puzzle for Jackson Prep in their attempt to make it 6 straight State Championships in a row is Rives Reynolds. The solid framed outfielder and Mississippi State recruit uses a very polished line drive approach and can wear out the gaps which led to 12 doubles last spring and a .393 batting average. Reynolds has good speed and paired with his strong arm makes him a superior defender as well.
Some loud contact from ‘23 OF Rives Reynolds (MS) who laces this one for a double for @jprepbaseball

Compact strength to the frame & shows up in the direct path. Controlled aggression. @HailStateBB recruit @PBR_Mississippi pic.twitter.com/WCRJz18CCV
+ Rounding out the top-5 in the 2023 class is the RHP/3B from Gautier. A physical presence when he steps into the box. Irving, yet another Ole Miss recruit in the Top 5, has tons of current power and swings with lots of intent which resulted in a .481 clip and 8 home runs last spring for the Gators. The dual sport athlete, (alos a top quarterback prospect) has upside on the mound as well with a fastball that reached into the upper 80’s and good shape and depth to his breaking ball.
Kaden Irvin (2023) of Gautier showed a solid 3 pitch mix last night. The Ole Miss recruit worked his fastball 86-87 (T88) while displaying excellent arm action with his change and good 12/6 tumbling action with the curveball. @kaden_irving @OleMissBSB @GautierBSB @ShooterHunt ? pic.twitter.com/0inPL4tTKF
