Jackson Summer ID: Quick Hits
May 31, 2024
JACKSON, MS - The Jackson Summer ID was held on Wednesday, May 29th at Jackson Prep in Flowood, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some prospects from the 2025-2028 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Wednesday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

QUICK HITS
+ OF Henry Abt (Hartfield Academy, 2026) was a Junior Future Games participant in 2022 so we had some knowledge about him going in to Wednesday’s Jackson ID showcase held at Jackson Prep. It was evident the 6-1, 185 pound Abt has been progressing very nicely as his first swing of the day was an event high 100.1 mph liner into the gap in right center. The left handed hitting outfielder continued his round with mostly a pull side approach, with slight loft, and averaged 94.2 for the day! On defense the uncommitted rising junior showed off a solid arm with an 88 mph bullet to home. And to complete his excellent showing he turned in a 6.8 60 which was one of the top times of the event. He’s definitely put himself in a really good position heading into the summer.
+ C/OF Nelson Barthel (Northwest Rankin, 2026) was seen a few times by our staff during the high school season and he played well above what would be expected from a sophomore catcher at the 7A level. The in-game maturity is evident, and though he still has plenty of work to solidify his game, the tools are there! On Wednesday Barthel displayed his ability behind the plate with quick feet and body positioning, along with pop times as low as 1.94. At the plate the 5-10, 190 pounder uses a line drive approach with the ability to spray the baseball with pop (92 mph EV) to all fields and more power on the way.

+ C JD Harvey (Seminary, 2026) is another junior catcher that shows an advanced look at the position. On Wednesday the uncommitted receiver turned in an event best 1.93 pop time using a solid and accurate arm (79 mph) in the process. At the plate, the 6-1, 185 pound right handed hitting Harvey can work the middle of the field well with a line drive approach, though shows the ability to add power to the pull side. Though he didn't pitch at the event, he has the ability to do it at the next level for recruiters that are keying in on him.

+ RHP Noah Williams (Northwest Rankin, 2026) gave us our first extended look at what he can do on the bump. We saw him briefly during the high school season and liked what we saw. Wednesday the rising junior showed us and a few recruiters on hand lots of arm side run on a fastball that was up to 86.3 mph. The 5-11, 175 pounder has some quality secondary offerings as well with more feel currently of a slider that shows solid shape and action just off the plate to righties. The change up looks to be third pitch to give hitters trouble as he gains more feel for it.

+ LHP Reid Vineyard (Jackson Prep, 2025) led the #1 ranked Jackson Prep pitchers in appearances this season with 21, while finishing with a 1.24 ERA. Wednesday the uncommitted lefty showed us his arsenal that led to that success. Vineyard was very consistent with his fastball to his arm side of the plate while working up to 85.3 mph in the bullpen. The action on his secondary stuff is still developing though he has feel for both a slider and change up.

+ RHP Ty Latham (Hartfield Academy, 2028) was one of two 2028 arms that gained our attention. Latham has some genetics, as arms run in his family so we expect him to continue to progress steadily. Currently he stands out in his class as well with a fastball that already sits in the upper 70's (T79.4) which is excellent given his age and 5-11, 145 pound frame. He shows developing feel for his off speed stuff which includes a curveball with 12/6 shape, and a change up that mimics fastball arm action well.

+ INF Graham Jackson (Hartfield Academy, 2025) turned in the top 60 time for the event with a swift 6.65 to start his day. The uncommitted rising senior did not disappoint the rest of the day as he was solid in all phases of his workout. On defense the 6-0, 170 pounder showed advanced glove action and a very strong arm across the diamond with a velocities up to 87 mph. At the plate Jackson uses a pull side, line drive approach with exit velocities up to 94 mph. After a solid junior year things should be heating up on the recruitment front for Jackson.
+ INF Carson Shells (Itawamba AHS, 2025) is smaller in stature at 5-8, 162 pounds but played big on Wednesday at our Jackson ID. The uncommitted rising senior runs well (7.0) but seems to play quicker. Shells turned in some solid metrics but most impressive was his event high 89 mph throws across the diamond from the shortstop position. At the plate he worked the middle of the field with consistent line drives and exit velocities up to 91 mph.
+ RHP Tyler Warren (Simpson Academy, 2028) was another 2028 arm that drew immediate attention from all eyes in attendance. Using very quick and loose arm action the rising freshman already shows life to his fastball that reached 77 mph. We see pitchers all the time that have the look of "more coming", and Warren is the perfect candidate. As Warren's 5-9, 135 pound body matures he will see steady increases in velocity as the arm works well. He also shows advanced feel for a breaking ball that already has spin up to 2500 while killing the spin on a change up that plays well off of his fastball arm action. We look forward to following his progression!
