2019 NC PBR ProCase: Statistical Analysis

Sunday February 10th saw 25 of the top players in the 2019 and 2020 classes in North Carolina converge on Kernersville, NC and the Diamond Xtreme athletics facility.  In front of over 25 professional scouts, each player had his chance to show his skills in the pro-style workout.

Pitchers and catchers started the day.  Catchers went through their defensive workout and all three showed advanced carry and accuracy.  The Diamond Xtreme facility allows for a full distance throw to 2B.  Fifteen of the top arms in the state then went through a controlled bullpen, showing where their stuff is as we get ready for the spring season.

The later session saw infielders and outfielders workout defensively, prior to several rounds of BP for each player.  The configuration of the 90 ft x 90 ft cage allowed the hitters to see the ball fly off the bat and allowed for the scouts to gauge exit velocity, launch angle, and barrel awareness. 

By any measure, the 2019 ProCase was a huge success for all involved.  Today we unveil some of the gaudy numbers these players put up during the day.  In the coming week we will continue to release stats, thoughts, video and more.

2019 NC PBR ProCase By the Numbers:

  • 25 players participated
  • 20 players from the 2019 class
  • 5 players from the 2020 class
  • 15 pitchers threw controlled bullpens
  • 8 arms touched 90 on the bump
  • 94 mph - New event record in NC
  • 3 catchers participated in the workout
  • 1.95 - Every Catcher threw a pop time under this number
  • 3 players worked out in the outfield defensively
  • 98 mph - A record for PBR of NC for Outfield positional velocity was recorded at the ProCase
  • 9 infielders went through the workout
  • 95 mph - A record for PBR of NC Infield positional velocity was recorded at the ProCase
  • 16 hitters went through several offensive stations and took live BP
  • 2 players broke the 100 mph barrier in exit velocity... with wood
  • 9 hitters recorded an exit velocity of 93 mph or better... with wood
