2019 Top Prospect Games - 2021 & 2022 MIF Analysis

One of the premier events each summer on the PBR docket is the North Carolina Top Prospect Games.  This year, the Top Prospect Games took place on August 7th at Campbell University with over 50 of the top players from North Carolina in attendance.   Position players worked through a full pro-style workout, followed by a controlled scrimmage with pitchers throwing live to hitters.  PBR scouts were on hand to collect stats, notes, and evaluations on each player in attendance.

We continue the deep dive into information and players from the Top Prospect Games.  Below is a look at the nine middle infielders from the 2021 and 2022 grad classes that were in attendance.  Only one of these middle infielders is committed.  Full evaluations, with statistics and links to player videos are below.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

 

Jordan Bryant SS / 2B / Lumberton , NC / 2022

5 foot 10, 125-pound thin frame with room for growth ahead.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Hands work back during the load with a short stride.  Gets extension through the ball out front.  Works mostly middle to his pull side.  Some length in the swing at times.  Exit velocity recorded at 75 mph and should improve with added strength.  Bounces around on the infield with fluid actions.  Some softness to the hands, funneling to the belt after catch with a quick release.  Arm topped at 78 mph across the diamond.  Recorded a 8.00 in the 60.

 

 

Chase Caristo SS / 2B / Apex, NC / 2021

Average build at 5 foot 8, 160-pounds.  Balanced setup from the right side with his bat flat above his back shoulder. Quick, short stride during the load.  Hands stay close to his body during the swing with a pull approach.  Slightly uphill through the ball at times.  Exit velocity recorded at 84 mph.  Plays through balls on the infield with average hands.  Funnels to the belt after catch with a quick release to first base.  Accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 73 mph.  Recorded a 7.06 in the 60.

 

 

Matt Heavner SS / OF / North Lincoln, NC / 2022

North Carolina State commit.  Average build at 5 foot 10, 145-pounds.  Athletic, relaxed setup from the right side of the plate.  Smooth load with a small leg kick and his hands getting ready to attack the ball.  Fluid swing with advanced barrel awareness using the whole field during batting practice.  Loose hands with above average bat speed with his exit velocity at 88 mph.  Plays relaxed on the infield with rhythm to the feet and hands.  Soft hands with easy transfers and feel from different arm angles.  Arm is accurate with carry across the diamond topping at 86 mph.  Recorded a 7.42 in the 60.  Plays faster than the sixty time.

 

 

Jackson Kuhn C / 2B / Pinecrest, NC / 2022

Lanky frame at 5 foot 11, 138-pounds with room to add strength.  Balanced setup from the right side with his bat flat over his back shoulder.  Weight goes slightly back in his load with little to no stride with a quiet barrel.  Stays inside the ball using the whole field during batting practice.  Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph and should improve with added strength.  Active feet that work around the ball on the infield with average hands.  Clean exchanges, with a long arm swing, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Some accuracy to his throws across the diamond that topped at 73 mph.  Recorded a 7.96 in the 60.

 

 

Korbin Pettigrew SS / OF / John T Hoggard, NC / 2022

Lanky frame at 6 foot 4, 160-pounds with room to add strength.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Weight works back during his load with a short stride.  Fluid stroke with his barrel working short to the ball.  Keeps his barrel in the zone with better than average barrel feel and bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 89 mph.  Plays fluid through balls in the outfield with average hands.  Long arm action, throwing from an overhand slot.  Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 85 mph.  Active feet on the infield working around the ball with average hands.  Quick transfers with his arm topping at 81 mph across the diamond.  Recorded a 7.23 in the 60. 

 

 

Adam Quintero SS / RHP / Piedmont, NC / 2021

6 foot, 145-pound frame with room to add strength.  Right hand hitter with a balanced setup.  Hands work back during the load with a short stride.  Works mostly to his pull side with an uphill bat path through the ball.  Swing can get long at times.  Average bat speed and barrel awareness with his exit velocity recorded at 86 mph.  Barreled two balls up the middle during game action and drove a ball to the left center gap.  Has rhythm on the infield with softness to his hands.  Some accuracy across the diamond with his arm topping at 81 mph.  Recorded a 7.41 in the 60.

 

 

Gavin Sentell SS / 2B / Ledford , NC / 2021

Athletic frame at 5 foot 9, 145-pounds.  Hits from the left side with an open stance.  Uses a toe tap during his load with his hands working back, creating some bat angle behind his head.  Some quickness to his hands with a pull approach.  Has feel for his barrel with average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 84 mph.  Works around the ball on the infield with fluid feet and average hands.  Some rhythm through his catch and release.  Some carry to his throws across the diamond that topped at 81 mph.  Recorded a 7.65 in the 60.

 

 

Devin Tonkins OF / SS / Greensboro Day, NC / 2021

Athletic at 5 foot 9, 150-pounds.  Hits from the right side with a balanced setup.  Short stride with a quiet barrel during his load.  Quick hands with a short bat path to the ball.  Line drive approach working mostly middle to his pull side.  Has feel for his barrel with average bat speed.  Exit velocity recorded at 83 mph.  Plays through balls in the outfield with average hands.  Gets momentum into his throws with clean transfers, and a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Accurate arm that topped at 82 mph.  Quick feet on the infield with average hands.  Accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 79 mph.  Recorded a 7.11 in the 60.

 

 

Oliver Zohn SS / 2B / South Garner, NC / 2021

5 foot 5, 130-pound build.  Open setup from the left side of the plate.  Quick load with a small leg kick and his hands working back.  Short bat path to the ball with a line drive approach.  Uses the whole field with better than average feel for his barrel.  Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph.  Quick, active feet on the infield with average hands.  Funnels to the belt after catch with clean transfers and a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Arm toped at 80 mph across the diamond.  Recorded a 7.07 in the 60.
