2022 Future Games: Team Carolina Positional Breakdown - OF

The 2022 Future Games took place on July 27-30 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. The event features the top uncommitted 2024 and 2025 prospects from across the country and was attended by more than 350 colleges from across all parts of the country. 

Below we take a look at the position players from North Carolina who were part of a very talented Team Carolina club that had a ton of eyes on it throughout the event and went on to win its pool.

SAWYER BLACK / 2B / WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, NC / 2024

Committed to Liberty shortly after the event. Lean, athletic frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Tracked a ball down in right center while playing center and made a diving catch charging in on a ball while playing right. Arm reached 83 mph from the outfield with accuracy. The left hand hitter has a balanced swing with loose, fast hands and feel for the barrel. Squared balls up to both gaps in BP, top exit velocity at 94.1 mph. Barreled multiple balls in game action to center and his pull side. Also showed the ability to handle left hand pitching. Tracked a ball down in right center while playing center and made a diving catch charging in on a ball while playing right. Arm reached 83 mph from the outfield. 

 

ASHER GOSS / RHP / LAURENS, SC / 2024

5-foot-11 175, pound athletic frame with present strength and room fill out.  Battled a hamstring injury all week but was still able to perform. Hits from an open taller stance with some good hand rhythm.  Shows a short swing with good extension through the ball. Peak exit velocity at 96.3 mph with an average EV of 85.6 mph. Looks to do damage with aggressive swings. Creates good leverage in swing with future power potential.  Has arm strength from the outfield with his throws topping at 87 mph. 

 

 

 

 

SEAN ROUSE / OF / SUMTER , SC / 2024

Strong, defined frame at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. Moves well in the outfield  showing the ability to  track down fly balls with solid footwork.  Ran a 6.95 laser timed 60. Hits from a wider base that is slightly open and uses a toe tap with a longer stride.  Shows off big time power and bat speed in swing.  High end exit velo up to 100 mph with an average EV of 94.9 mph.  Has a good flat path through the ball while doing a really good job of staying on plane with the ball.  Aggressive approach looking to damage with each swing.

 

 

 

LANGSTON RUPERT / HICKORY GROVE CHRISTIAN, NC / 2024

Athletic frame at 6-foot, 168-pounds with room to hold added weight. Showed burst running a 6.82 laser timed 60. Speed translates to the outfield and the basebaths. Showed the ability to track balls down in the outfield and stole multiple bags. Has arm strength. Hit several balls of the barrel in BP with his peak exit velocity at 91.1 mph. Hands are fast, hits with a sturdy base, back leg drives through the ball with lift to the swing path. Turned around a fastball driving it through the 6-hole and drove another ball deep to the right center gap.
