Big NCISAA Matchup Goes Extras

PBR was on hand in High Point for a non-conference game between two programs that have a history of playing for state titles in the NCISAA.  As we ramp up for the run through May, this contest provided a good measuring stick for both programs to see where they are as we hit the stretch.

A game dominated by pitching featured only 10 hit totals over the 9 innings.  Scoreless through 8 innings, the Trojans would get the 9th started with a leadoff from Thomas Bowman.  Bowman would be cut down on a fielder’s choice leaving a runner at 1B with 1 out for WCA.  The winning run would get into scoring position, advancing all the way to 3B, via an infield error and score on short fly ball to the right side.

2024 RHP Hudson Lance worked 7 strong innings in a no-decision for the Trojans.  He only allowed 4 hits and 1 walk, striking out 10.  2023 Ethan Gravely picked up the win in relief, firing two scoreless, hitless, innings striking out 2, including the final out of the game.  Phillip Griffen led WCA with 2 hits and an RBI on the game winning SAC Fly.

For High Point Christian, starter 2023 Dylan Story went 5 innings, striking out 9, and allowing 5 hits and 3 walks.  He turned the game over to 2024 Tony Lopez who fired 2 scoreless innings.  2023 Trace Aufdehar worked the final two innings, taking the loss, giving up 1 hit and 1 unearned run,   The threesome combined to punch 16 over the 9 inning affair.  2023 Owen Smith led the HPCA offense with 1 hit, a double.

With the win, WCA moves to 13-4 overall.  They will take part in the Cannon Ballers Invitational in Kannapolis beginning on Friday.  HPCA drops to 12-7 on the year.  They will play Dudley HS on Friday.
