NC: Cardinal Gibbons Wins Tight One with Wakefield

Cardinal Gibbons fell behind 7-3 after three innings, but came back to win 10-9. The game included 11 hits by both teams. Both teams had eight of the starting nine players to record at least one hit. 

Down 3-1 in the top of the 3rd, Wakefield plated 6.  The inning was jump started by a RBI  double from Josh Potter to right field.  After a walk, consecutive singles from Braden Beyer, Caden French, and Sam Bretherick pushed Wakefield ahead 7-3.  

Gibbons would tie the game in the 4th at 7-7.  After two 1 out singles, C Brang doubled home D Shepard to make it 7-5.  A walk and a single would load the bases for a RBI ground out from W Staab.  The tying run scored via error before the inning concluded. 

Cardinal Gibbons’ B O’Brien tripled to leadoff the 5th and scored a hitter later on an RBI single from N Sopko.  A J Masterson single with the bases loaded and 1 out pushed the lead to 10-7. 

Three Cardinal Gibbons arms combined in the win, striking out 9 and issuing 4 free passes.  

With the win, Cardinal Gibbons moves to 2-3 overall on the young year.  They do not play again until next Monday against Wake County Home School.  Wakefield drops to 1-3 and will play at Athens Drive on Thursday.
