August 6, 2019
On Sunday August 4th, PBR was at Forsyth Country Day School to run the PBR Scout Day with the Carolina Rockies. The day included a full pro-style workout for the position players with a laser timed 60, offensive wokrout and defensive workout. Over 40 players were able to update their personal statistics, evaluation, and add video to their PBR Profile.
In the coming days, we we will begin to take a deep dive into the Carolina Rockies players. Today we start with a look at the statistical leaders from the workout. To see the full statistical breakdown, CLICK HERE.
PBR Scout Day: Carolina Rockies - Statistical Leaders
The 60 Yard Dash
Rockies players ran on a firm track in the outfield of Forsyth Country Day. The laser timed 60 saw 1 time under 7.00 and 7 times under 7.25. The median 60 on the day clocked in at 7.46
Exit Velocity
The exit velocity station allowed players to record a top exit velocity off the bat, working off a tee. Players had the chance to use their bat, as well as sample Mizuno bats at the station. 40 players worked through the exit velocity station with three at or above 90mph off the barrel. The median exit velocity came in at 83 mph.
Positional Velocity - Infielders
Infielders took batted ground balls from SS and 1B as part of their pre-game workouts. While evaluators are working to see footwork, hands, arm action, arm accuracy, carry, and more, PBR scouts were able to quantify arm strength with a radar gun reading. Below are the top positional velocities for players at the Carolina Rockies Scout Day
Positional Velocity - Outfielders
Outfielders took their pre-game showcase workout from right field, making multiple throws to the plate. Coaches and scouts were able to see a player's ability to field through a ball, their exchange and arm action, as well as their accuracy, carry, and arm strength. The arm strength also registers as a radar reading out of the hand. Below are the top OF positional velocities.
Catcher Pop Times
The catchers worked from behind the plate, simulating throws through to 2B as if a runner were stealing. Coaches and scouts have their stop watches ready, recording the pop time, or the time from the ball hitting the catchers glove to the point the ball is transitioned and hitting the middle infielders glove at 2B. Coaches and scouts are also evaluating the exchange, arm action, arm strength, and accuracy. Below are the top pop times from the workout.
Max Fastball
Pitchers threw in a controlled bullpen for PBR scouts and college coaches in attendance. The evaluation included the entire arsenal for each pitcher, their delivery, arm action, command, and projection. Below is a look at just the Fastball and who had the best bolt of the day.
