Commitment Tracker: 17 Off the Board; ECU Gains 3; 2 Future Game Prospects Commit

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The North Carolina Commitment Tracker will be a weekly blog to track players and programs through the recruiting process.  Each week we will look players that have pledged their commitment with back ground on select players and their process.  We will also look total commitment numbers across the state and profile select schools as they work to complete their 2019 class.

The commitment tracker has been humming the past two weeks with a total of 17 players from North Carolina pledging their commitment to the school of their choice.  East Carolina landed 3 players to their upcoming classes.  North Carolina and Francis Marion each netted two commitments in the past two weeks.

Two members of Team Carolina from the 2018 PBR Future Games each made their choices.  Preston Hall (3B, Myers Park HS, 2020) followed a big week in Charleston, SC at the PBR Fall Championships – Southeast by committing to the Cougars of the College of Charleston.  Trey Truitt (OF, East Mecklenburg HS, 2020) put up monster numbers at the workout for the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis.  Truitt committed to Coach Cliff Godwin and the Pirates of East Carolina this past week.

Hall is an advanced hitter from the left side with tremendous power potential.  There was tremendous buzz after the week in Indianapolis and Hall heard from schools in several regions.  The evaluation on Hall, after the Future Games:

Athletic build at 6-foot, 195 pounds.  Strength is present with a muscular lower half.  Chance to be an elite hitter. Is not cheated in the box.  Airs out every swing he can from the left side of the plate.  101 mph exit velocity. Shows barrel awareness in BP and in game situations.  Some swing and miss at times in games, but does not allow the swing to settle for weak contact if his timing is off on a pitch.  Balanced setup with some bat waggle. Exaggerated leg kick and aggressive stride. Good head discipline. Works for extension. Loose is present.  Pull oriented. Potential middle of the order type hitter. Works with athleticism in his feet and hands in the workout. Flashed the ability to drop step and get range to his left.  Hands funnel to the midsection working to a medium arm swing. High-¾ release and a positional velocity of 85 mph across the diamond. In game situations the footwork took flatter, more direct routes, limiting some range.  The arm can be erratic but should improve with better rhythm in the feet. Played some 1B in game situations and handled the position very naturally without many reps at the position. From the outfield the arm carried with a longer stroke, showing some accuracy at 84 mph out of the hand.  May run enough to add depth to a roster as a potential corner outfielder, if needed, turning in a 7.35 sixty.”

Truitt is a dual sport athlete who gave college coaches plenty to think about entering the fall season, with his performance as a member of Team Carolina in Indianapolis.  A physical presence with strength and quickness, Truitt ran a 7.06 sixty, posted a 92 mph arm from the outfield and then flashed an exit velocity of 102 mph off the barrel.  His evaluation from the Future Games:
