Final 2017 Overall Rankings Released

Farewell, Class of 2017.

It’s been a pleasure scouting you for the last four years. But now that the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft has passed, it’s time to officially close the books on this richly deep and talented class with our final Top 400 Class of 2017 Overall Rankings.

It’s important to note that our overall rankings only includes prospects within the Prep Baseball Report 34-state coverage area, and therefore differs from the PBR Draft 100. It’s also important to note that where players were selected in the draft didn’t affect the rankings order, as players slide and climb due to signability considerations, among other factors.

With all that said, this 2017 class finished with LHP Mackenzie Gore (Whiteville HS, NC) as the No. 1 overall prospect. The highly athletic left-hander, who was selected No. 3 overall by the Padres, enjoyed a meteoric rise throughout the year thanks to an electric arsenal.

Few players saw their stocks climb more during the spring than OF Austin Beck (North Davidson HS, NC) and SS Chris Seise (West Orange HS, FL), who both jumped into the top 10 and eventually became first-round selections.

Other big risers during the spring season included RHP Matt Tabor (Milton Academy HS, MA), OF Mason House (Whitehouse HS, TX), RHP Steven Jennings (DeKalb County HS, TN), RHP James Marinan (Park Vista HS, FL), LHP Seth Lonsway (Celina HS, OH), RHP Cade Cavalli (Bixby HS, OK) and Freddy Tarnok (Riverview HS, FL), to name a few.

Enough reading about it.
