Impact Spotlight: 3 Uncommitted Seniors from Winter Events

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The Impact Spotlight continues to highlight uncommitted players that may make an impact at the next level.  Each player spotlighted has attended a PBR event, securing a full PBR profile with an evaluation, statistics, and a video.  Players attending PBR events are able to connect with over 800+ college coaches and pro scouts that subscribe to PBR.  Inside the Impact Spotlight, each player will have evaluations and video available.

As PBR continues to identify players from the state at our winter events, we look to highlight some of the uncommitted seniors.  Today we will look at a catcher, right handed pitcher, and 1B/LHP that could make an impact in the right situation, in years to come.

Abana Kafai (2018, 1B/LHP, Mount Tabor HS) stands an eye catching 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with defined strength in the lower half and broad shoulders.  While a little raw in the box, and on the mound, the lefty shows enough talent to allow an evaluator to dream about his potential.  There is quickness in the body and the metric stats have not caught up to the athleticism... yet.

Cody Strain (2018, RHP, Franklin HS) has plenty of projection left in a 6-foot-3, 187 pound frame.  In an mid-January bullpen the fastball touched 82.  The change-up could quickly become a weapon, especially as the fastball takes the next jump.

Behind the dish Josh Topper (2018, C, Hickory Ridge HS) does a lot of things with ease.  It is an easy target, where the hands work.  Pop times of 2.11 - 2.33 came with carry and accuracy as the positional velocity of 76 out of the crouch was impressive.  From the right side, the exit velocity off the barrel is up to 86 already.

The impact spotlight features a detailed scouting report on each player along with video.  Each player's name will link them back to their PBR profile as well.
