NC Insider: Southern Athletics Prospect Camp - Statistical Analysis

By Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Southern Athletics is a baseball organization located in South Carolina, drawing players from both North and South Carolina.  A fairly new program, they have quickly made their mark on the region with 33 players listed on their website as having committed to a school to play baseball in the 2017 class.  On September 16 - 17, the entire organization was brought together to work out and play in front of college coaches and PBR’s staff at Conestee Park in Greenville, SC.

The position players in attendance were run through a coordinated and organized pro-style workout, utilizing four fields.  One field was reserved for defensive work, another for offensive work, and the final two fields were used for team work and the sixty.  With PBR in attendance, and overseeing the statistics, players ran a timed sixty on a laser timer.  They received an exit velocity in a cage area, using a radar gun to capture the exit velocity.  Position players also had a radar gun in use to record their arm strength.

The event featured 73 position players in the workout.  A solid mix of players, ranging in age from 2018 graduates to 2021 graduates.  Six of the players are currently committed, five from the 2018 class and one from the 2019 class.
