NC PBR ProCase Roster Spotlight: Middle Infielders & Outfielders

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Sunday February 10th will feature the 2nd annual PBR ProCase in North Carolina at the Diamond Xtreme facility in Kernersville, NC.  The invite only event will feature approximately 30 players from North Carolina going through a pro-style workout in front of MLB scouts and professional evaluators.

As we prepare for the ProCase we are going to feature the players that will be in attendance.  Four middle infielders and one primary outfielder will take part in the ProCase.  On the infield side, we feature one senior and three juniors.  The lone primary outfielder is a senior.  Each will get an extensive workout in front of a throng of professional evaluators.

Scouting Report

North Carolina State commit.  Athleticism exists and his frame should allow him to continue to add strength and quickness.  There is not a tool that stands out above all the others.  Our last full report on Giles was at last year's Preseason All-State event.  He has continued to mature in the last year...

01.28.17

Does a lot of things well with projection left.  5-foot-11, 170 pounds, starts open, using a leg kick and short stride to generate better than average bat speed.  Some bat waggle throughout the load.  Exit velocity of 84, finding consistent barrel.  Path is level, working for extension and staying gap-to-gap with good rhythm.  At short, has rhythm and catches the ball funneling to the mid-section.  Hands work with ease to the exchange.  Some shoulder stiffness as the arm works to a high-3/4 slot showing some carry at 75mph across the field.  Ran a 4.25 thirty.  Standing broad jump tested at 7-foot-4.

Scouting Report

NC State commit is a premium defender with good angles, the ability to throw from multiple slots, and plenty of carry across the diamond.  Offensively he has made big strides in the past year and has begun to drive the baseball as his length frame has added strength.

08.09.18
North Carolina State commit.  Rangy athletic frame.  Length to the limbs with strength present.  Stands 6-foot-1, 172 pounds with room to continue to mature in the coming years.  Advanced defender with great rhythm and athletic hands.  Good bend, working through the ball with balance.  Funnels to the midsection.  Quick, clean, athletic transitions to a short arm action.  Easy carry and accuracy at 81 mph across the diamond.  Better quickness on the infield than the 7.02 sixty suggests, moving with efficiency and good range.  Arm slot can match the needed throw when on the move.  Right handed hitter is balanced with waggle in his hands.  Loads with a weight shift back, slight leg kick, and a bat tip toward the pitcher.  Loose and quick through the zone.  High barrel ability.  Uphill leverage, working for extension with a slight pull tendency.  Exit velocity peaked at 94 mph off the barrel.

Austin St. Laurent SS / RHP / Western Alamance, NC / 2020

East Carolina commit.  A skilled defender with advanced arm strength across the diamond.  His athleticism plays, and shows, whether it is in a workout or in game play.  Offensively, he made big strides in the past year, showing more feel for the barrel with quickness in his hands.

Hayden Summers SS / RHP / Northwest Guilford, NC / 2020

Will workout on the bump and at short during the ProCase.  A North Carolina commit has quickness and arm strength, working with some ease.  As he continues to develop strength in his frame, his swing will play at a high level.
