Alexander Central Escapes Richmond County

As with most state playoff games, both teams entered very confident in the arm they sent to the mound.  Alexander Central went with 2017 RHP Zach Brzykcy, while Richmond countered with 2018 LHP Jonathan Lee.

Both arms worked out of jams early in the game with Brzykcy striking out the side after issuing a walk and hit-by-pitch in the first.  Lee worked out of a bases loaded 1 out situation, only giving up one in the 2nd inning.

The big blow on the night came off senior Derek Dyson’s bat in the 5th as he launched a home run to left, giving Alexander Central a little cushion heading into the final innings.

After a brief weather delay, Richmond loaded the bases in the sixth, getting to the bullpen of AC.  Junior RHP Dustin Cook was able to put the fire out, inducing soft contact a good 2-seam fastball to keep AC in the lead.  Cook’s seventh inning was clean as Alexander Central advances to the next round.

Millers 8th Inning Blast lifts Mooresville over West Forsyth

Both Mooresville and West Forsyth entered Tuesday’s match-up eyeing a low scoring affair as they ran their aces to the mound.  Gianni Smith has had an incredible year, leading West to a regular season co-champion, while Justin Jarvis is one of the elite 2018 arms in North Carolina.  However, the offenses of each team had their say and both teams where in their bullpens by the fourth.

In the top of the 8th, Mark Miller (2017, OF, Millersville University commit) launched a ball to left, giving Mooresville a lead they would not relinquish.

Fuquay Advances of DH Conley

Leaning on veteran leadership, the Bengals of Fuquay-Varina advance to the 2nd round where they will face Jordan (Durham) HS.  Kyle Jackson (2017, RHP, Brunswick CC commit) lead the way in the box and on the mound.  The senior showed up in a big way, attacking hitters and allowing his defense to make plays.  Conley’s senior RHP, Noah Jones worked to match Jackson but Fuquay rolled two runs across in the third, giving Jackson all the support he would need.
