Union Pines used a two-run third to take the lead and eventually advance in the NCHSAA 3A state tournament.  Both pitching staffs controlled the game with Union Pines Tanner Freeland working into the 6th to earn the win.

Western Harnett scored a run in the first.  With one out, K Denkins singled and moved to 2B on Bradley Wilson’s walk.  C Welc singled to left scored Denkins.  Western Harnett did not threaten again until the 6th, where they loaded the bases with 3 walks but Trent Marion entered the game for Union Pines and quickly induced a double play grounder to end the threat.

Union Pines scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning with some aggressive base running.
